Forget the free copy, unless you just want the database structure to use
for your own programming.
So we have (rounded) the Deluxe version @ US$30, Personal Historian @
US$30, Passage Express @ US$55, GenViewer @ US$20, Map My Tree @ US$40,
Charting @ US$20, Genelines @ US$20, and Treedraw @ US$40.
You probably don't need all those, you can just keep your data in the
free version, and program the data out for yourself. But the lot will
cost you US$255....which is just plain crazy for a genealogy program
using old technology. In fact, using any technology.

What that is in the free version of Legacy 6 is missing from
this free version?

Could you elaborate?
I continue to use v 5.x deluxe, mainly because v 6.0 required more memory, and
I didn't want to have to upgrade my laptop in order to be able to use it.
I did try out v6.00 Standard on my wife's computer, which had more memory, but
the additional features were not things that I was likely to use.
So what does v 7.00 have or not have that earlier versions have or not have,
and how much memory does it need to run?
Can anyone do a review of it, and of the other programs you mentioned, most of
which I'd never heard of.

You certainly don't. I'd argue that you don't need any of them.
The Deluxe version has the charting built in for one, so there is no
reason to pay extra for it. If you have the charting, you likely
won't need Treedraw, which is a more elaborate form of the same thing.
I have GenViewer and use it with version 6 deluxe, especially for
giving copies of my GEDCOM to relatives, but it isn't part of Legacy
and I would hardly call it necessary to have "an effective version".
I've never considered getting any of those others (which I believe are
all written by third party companies), none of which are necessary to
an "effective" genealogy program.
Yet I've built two good sized data bases (20K names each mostly new
research) and added a few thousand names as part of tailoring someone
else's 110K name data base to my own purposes, in around 4 years using
the program.
