I heard a rumor that PAF would supposedly not run on Windows 8.
Any truth to that rumor?

I think I have read that in order to run some older applications
on Windows 7, one must install what amounts to a virtual machine
environment that emulates an older version of Windows, but I'm a
Linux-only type, so I'm not very acquainted with Windows
workarounds. My guess is that Windows 8 would have at least as
much capability in that area as does Windows 7, but I've been
surprised before by some things Microsoft has done.

Thanks.

I found that some of my programs, especially MS DOS (not Windows) ones, would
not run on Windows 7 64 bit.

Fortunately it came with a DVD to instal the 32-bit version, which I did, and
PAF 4 runs just fine. So does PAF 2.3, except, of course, that it is not Y2K
compatible, and so shouts that there is an error for anyone born, dying or
marrying after 31 Dec 1999.

Depends on what version of Win7 you have. The Home versions do not have the
Virtual PC feature, you need at least Win7 Professional if you need that.
What MS will do in Win8, I have no clue.

This might not be very helpful, or even relevant, but there's a free,
downloadable verions of VMWare Player, which I've read can be run on Win7
and Vista. You can install WinXP on/into the VMWare, and use that combo to
run older programs. You have to have the license registration key for the
XP, though. Although I also saw a web site that had a link to a
downloadable image of XP that didn't need the registration. I read about
all this stuff while trying to get an older program to run on my Vista
laptop, but have not yet tried VMWare myself. The VMWare solution was
recommended by the author of the program, so it probably does work.

Just to cut a long story short I have a Win 8 preview copy so I d/l PAF and
installed it there (Win 8 32 bit) OK and the program (PAF) runs OK.

I've had a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit laptop since last November, and
have had no problems using PAF 5 and PAF Companion.
