I have taken the second line and written under it what would make sense if I
could remember the ASCII code for an "e" with a thingo on top. So if I can
work out to replace =E9 with the ASCII character & the =E0 and the =E8 with
the right thing I might have a chance of "web" translating it - I have more
but it is intersperced with (french?) HTML code that my (english) email and
web browsers wont read. I cannot make my Outlook or Outlook Express or
browser read the HTML for some reason - it (the HTML) is really in English
but it does not translate into a browser. Is HTML in English in French web
pages? I have never thought to look.
All I can make out is it is about marriages (naissance) & Kelle's (an
ancestor) & Nancy (a town in france) and Matthew Flinders is also mentioned
in 1802 in another part. I would hate to think I missed out on my
ggggrandfather being in the boat with Matthew Flinders as he sailed around
Australia. (he probably only painted it, or cleaned it)

I hope someone else can translate the passage, as my French is pretty elementary.

I rewrote sentences with those diacritics to help you to
convert them. To do it yourself, the hint is 1st to be sure
you use the same conversion page. ISO-8859-1 for example.
Then, convert them from hexa value to decimal value.
E0 = (E*16 + 0), E = 14, so E0 = 224.
Then, you disactivate the NUMLOCK on your keyboard,
you press ALT (and keep it down), then
0 2 2 4 on the numeric keypad (the 0 is important with Word
only, I think it is not necessary elsewhere), then release ALT.

I once tried to ask directions from someone near Montréal.
For more than a minute we tried to communicate, and I didn't
understand even _one_ word. Finally I did understand
_one_ and only one word: "sord"
She thought I was deaf and tried to give me some money!
