I seek validation of the follow information:

The parents of Jacobus VanderGoes (1538-1603) are thought to be Adrian
Van Der Goes (1495-1560) and Anna VanSpangen (1495-1548). Jacob
VanDerGoes is said to have been born 1538 at Middelburg, Walcheren
Island, Zeeland, Netherlands and he reportedly died 14 Aug 1603 also
at Middleburg. Jaobus VanderGoes married Matilda Balbani (1543-1564)
in 1558, and their children (again undocumented) were:Johanna
(1558-1593); Cornelius (1560-1593); and Martyn (1573-1634).

Any assistance is most appreciated.

Are you aware that Zeeland lost loads of data during war (WOII) of old
times. It might be this was the best available reconstruction on
secondary data or even some older research which might not be
reconstructed nowadays. Just in warning not to be disappointed if some
mentions "not possible any more". Do not know myself what is available
or not but do know lots was lost.

Richard

Richard,

Thank you for sharing insight on research related to the VanderGoes in
The Netherlands. I've wondered, too, about my ties to Gerrit Goosens
Van Schiack, born 1588. From my limited ability in research, I gather
that Gerrit Goosens Van Schiack married Marrigje Barends, born 1590.

In turn, Gerrit Goosens Van Schiack and Marrigje Barends had a
daughter Annatje Gerrits (van Schaick) who married my ancestor Aert
Jacobsen (Van Wagenen) who was born abt 1620.

The narrative continues at

See on my site the branch http://www.fmavanschaik.nl/TGSx.htm
Her brother Goosen Gerritsen van Schaick is certainly one that went to
"New Amsterdam" ;-) and a branch I have in parts onto currently living.
One of that branch went back to Amsterdam and settled there before 1694.

I'll check this link hopefully tomorrow.

Better write "van der Goes" and "van Spangen", Adriaen or
Adriaan and Anna are among my ancestors (see
http://home.online.nl/audeman/vanderGoes.htm), have
you seen their portraits already? Ardiaen and his father Aert van
der Goes had the important function of landsadvocaat, later
called raadpensionaris, of Holland.
I am sure more can be found about Jacobus, his marriage and
children.
On the internet I cannot find anything useful.
In the Delft archive there are a number of genealogical
descriptions of the family
(http://www.archief-delft.nl/inventarissen/pdf/0699.pdf).
On my web page the book of Jhr. Aert van der Goes is mentioned,
published in 1995, "Het geslacht Van der Goes en hun wederwaardigheden".
This can be consulted at the CBG in The Hague.

Probably this has just been invented by some American
(I see there are American descendants).
The "Groot algemeen historisch, geographisch, genealogisch,
en oordeelkundig Woordenboek" (1729)
http://tinyurl.com/6dgoj4f
and Van der Aa, Biographisch Woordenboek (1862)
http://tinyurl.com/5wdph4y
mention as children of Van der Goes - Van Spangen:
1. Christiaan
2. Aart
3. Pieter
4. Andries
5. Filips
6. Maria
and no Jacobus.
Another Van der Goes (Pieter) married a Balbani (Alexandrine), an Italian
family which had settled in Antwerp.
Jacobus is said to have been a merchant (note for
http://www.henryhendricks.org/old/GENEALOGY/henry40/pafg13.htm).
In Antwerp there was also a Van der Goes family. They had a
different coat of arms ("de sable, au puits d'or"). The Dutch family had
and has "de sable à trois têtes de bouc d'argent".

Your posting has been very beneficial. My naivete lead me to
conflating the Antwerp and Dutch van der Goes families.

If the history was lost during WWII, the Wyckoff book, having been written prior to the lost documents may be factual.
I can find no Antwerp Vandergoes/Balbani in my research.

And, the elephant in the room...another Vandergoes/Balbani union? What are the odds? Would they have been cousins? Were they all merchants?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pieter_Claesen_Wyckoff
Because of the work of a fraudulent genealogist, it was mistakenly presumed for many decades that Pieter was born the son of Claes Cornelissen van Schouw and Margaret van der Goes.

So I assume you are descended from Pieter Wyckoff, and you still believe that Margaret van der Goes was his mother?
