Hello Listers

Would some please clarify for me please the following. I was down at the
electoral office at Gosford NSW and discovered that some of the
microfiche were missing. I had to ask the girl to look up some names for
me as the fiche were taken from the box by the commissioner.

I was also informed that the Electoral Rolls for QLD have been withdrawn
from the public. I would like some confirmation of this and why is this
happening.

Regards

Grahame,

Some electors fear for their safety and become registered electors on a roll
without an address. Sometimes they are already on the roll(microfiche) for
the address that they continue to live at and wish to have that address
suppressed. The only way that the address for which they are enrolled can be
completely suppressed is to remove the microfiche sheet or plate that
contains their name and address in every office in which that sheet or plate
is available. Sadly this procedure also removes a couple of thousand other
names at the same time.

When all AEC offices have data available on computer for their home states
much of this problem will disappear. The Electoral roll has been a most
useful tool for genealogists but it is also available to all members of the
community whereas it is created solely for the conduct of elections. The
balance between personal privacy and public transparency is difficult to
manage to satisfy all.

Genealogists in Australia are already severely disadvantaged by the national
paranoia that has prevented the recording of Census data for over a century,
let us hope that some of the electoral roll remains available to us all.

All Electoral Offices of Australia ,
are now on line at "divisional offices".

However ONLY the State in which it is.

Interstate (as such) are only available in the HEAD OFFICE
of each State.

Rather than the "original" information of
each name "requested", is the only one displayed is not correct.

E.G. Enter Robert WARD,
brings up every variation of Robert WARD.

For me the response is quite fast.
If it gets to overload I expect it to be much slower.
Fiche are still available until 23rd. July

This is my Last word on this subject.

However I (& I presume others ) am disappointed that Interstate are
only available at "each" states Head Office

There were quite a few posts on this, not just Ken's. Probably easier,
Grahame, to simply browse the list archives:
