South Australian Artist or Painter?

I have been given an excellent 16 x 12" coloured likeness of my
great-grandfather, Gavin Gardner (1848-1919) in a gold wooden frame. I
think it was sat for in about 1900. There is a sticker on the back,
partly obliterated which says "F.J. Ko__hncke, Adelaide".
Would anyone know the artist/photographer's name and perhaps solve the
riddle of whether it was painted or touched up with colour after being
photographed?
