Hi,

I am wondering if there is SKS who could check for
a possible Victorian marriage around 1855-1860
between Frederik John DOWEL and Johanna Christina
HAMMAN.

I believe their children Henry (1860), George
(1865), Johanna (1868), Mary (1970), Ernest
(1975), Frederick (1977) and Flora Louise (1881)
where all born in Victoria but I suspect they
themselves were born in Germany.

I don't see a marriage. Information (DATE) should be on a birth
certificate.
I don't know where Bass is or the abbreviation.
Glen may be Glenlyon which is close to Daylesford.

Pat,
I agree with Philomena's suggestion of GLEN.

BASS could not be an abbreviation, so it must be BASS on the Bass
Highway just before Kilcunda or the turn off to Phillip Island in
South Gippsland, which seems in disagreement with all of the others
in the Daylesford district, but they could have moved.
His occupation could give a clue.
BUT,Frederick (b) Bass 1877. #20199 was late in the year.
Then Frederick (d) Daylesford 1877, # 12024 was early in the year.
does seem odd.
However I would suggest you obtain
the (b) Cert. of Frederick # 20199 as an earlier Frederick # 12024
may have died & they used the name in "memory".
Also the Cert. shoula answer all questions.

Hi Philomena & Ken,

Thank you for all the information.

It would appear that there were two sons called
Frederick. One born around 1863 and died aged
14yrs in 1877 and one born 1877 and died in 1931.

I appreciated all the help.

Note on death 1877-12024 place of birth is given
not place of death.
This changed in 1881 to place of death.

Put Fred in my Research fasmily tree on Ancestry. Got a HARLAND tree which
says the parents married 1856 in Liverpool, England. Must have been waiting
to board their ship. I can't find the marriage on FreeBMD.
