My ancestor James MacManus was a private marine and belonged to the
59th company when he arrived on the "Sirius" with the first fleet. I
believed he served on the "Hector" prior to his arrival in Australia
and I am trying to track down where and when he was born. Does anyone
have any ideas how to go about this task? Regards, June

HI June,

You could obtain his naval records from the PRO in London, as they should
show his date and place of baptism. If you need a professional to do this
for you, I can recommend:

Peter Bennett
35 Westover Road,
Fleet, Hampshire, England GU13 9DB
UK

His fees are moderate and he is reasonably fast.

Hope this helps,

Faye

Shirley -

John Waghorn has a P.O.address in Thomastown, Vic.3074 but for the
life of me I can't bring to mind the actual number! However, I
reckon he'd receive so much mail that they'd know it is addressed C/-
the Post Office.

Good luck....Barbara K
