I have been working on a biography of John N. TEMPLETON (1804?-1851). JNT graduated from Ohio University in 1828, among the first 10 A-A college graduates in this country. Born ca 1803/1804 Spartanburg, Sc. - emancipated by Will in 1813/Means-Williamson. He died July 11, 1851 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Among his activities in the Pittsburgh, Pa.:
- a founder of the African Public School
- associate of Martin Robinson DELANY on the _Mystery_ (AA Newspaper)
- active in local convention mouvement
- member of the Wylie African Methodist Espiscopal Church (now Bethel)
- member United Bretheren of Mutual Relief with J.B. VASHON
- an officer of the Pittsburgh Anti-Slavery Society (Manager/1840).

Pompey was the father of JNT, Benjamin F, Isaac, etc.
June 8, 1839
Pompey Templeton was received to communion on a
certificate from Manchester.
October 7, 1839
Pompey Templeton, Hannah M. Shepherd, Mary Ann Cochran and
William W. Gilliland were at their own request, dismissed
to join other churches where God, in his providence, may
cast their lot.
December 4, 1839
Matilda Templeton, John Dangerfield and Sara Gilliland
received on certificates, the two first from Manchester,
and the last from Buckcreek.
