Since I am hardly a computer-oriented and educated person, I would like the
knowledgeable participants to suggest ways to get the wire-services reports, or
verbatim quotes from (any) of the Yugoslav news sources (newspapers, radio,
television, etc.) to this network. I am sure that we all agree that all such
reports are necessarily biased (in some cases even if reported by western
news services). However, unfortunately, those reports are still the only
possible way to get substantial information from Yugoslavia. All of us
do not have an advantage that people in larger cities have of the
possibility to buy e.g. Yugoslav newspapers 3-4 days old. Would it be
possible to get some type of a reader's digest version of those reports in
our network?
Please reply to the newsnet, because I do believe there are people
intersted in this type of information.

I have *never ever* received my copy of BECT from Mr. Stevanovic or
Mr. Simic.
I receive BECT directly from Mr. Pantic EPANTIC%YUBGEF51.BITNET and
simultaneously from Mr. Antonic as a distributor.
I see no reason for apology. I was just trying to be helpful and
conveyed the information as I get it and at the same time
reduce the number of pieces of mail Mr. Pantic has to send
overseas.
Regards,

These are the people one needs to contact. THere are other

a while ago and I apologize to those who have read it
already.
Merry networking,
In his post about NEWS FROM YUGOSLAVIA, Mr. Marn gave an
I N C O R E C T information (I am shure with no bad intentions
and with the full consent of Mr. Antonic).

The address of the distributor for the news from BELGRADE I S N O T
"na...@andrew.cmu.edu". Mr. Antonic distributes news from Vjesnik (Zagreb),
which is, very much the view on the events from (todays) Croatian
perspective.
The correct address in the USA, for subscription to the e-mail news
BECT (Belgrade) is:
ste...@cobalt.cco.caltech.edu (Ljubisa Stevanovic)
or, you can sent your request to me at: si...@theory4.caltech.edu
I think an appology is in order. News from Yugoslavia are very
biased these days.

Let me clearify what is the issue here (I will not waste time on
the marginal issue of his apology, here).
FIRST. a) BECT from Belgrade comes from EPANTIC%YUBGEF51.BITNET,
and in the near future there will be an additional source of news originating
from Belgrade (SIEM), so that the volume of the news from Belgrade will
increase.
b) News from Zagreb comes from EIGALY%YUBGEF51.BITNET,
and is distributed by Mr. Antonic.
SECOND. a) Distribution for America for BECT e.t.c (Belgarde),
from now on, is going from:
ste...@cobalt.cco.caltech.edu (Ljubisa Stevanovic)
and, si...@simic.ccsf.caltech.edu
that is, redakcija BECTi and Mr. Pantic, have already SOLVED the
problem of how to "reduce the number of pieces of mail Mr. Pantic has
to sent overseas", and Jure should not have to worry about this any more.
This means that Mr. Marn, as well as, Mr. Antonic, will in the future
obtain their PERSONAL COPY of BECT e.t.c.(Belgrade), from the above
mentioned distributors.
The point is that people should have the choice in deciding what
they want to subscribe to. We DO NOT have time to read everithing, and we
have to MAKE CHOICES. Since the distribution of news is moderated, people
who would like to make shure they get ALL THE NEWS from Belgrade in any
situation in the future, should SUBSCRIBE DIRECTLY to the above mentioned
distributors for the YU-News from Belagrade. Or, there are people who might.
Let me stop here.
Regards,
Petar

I am little bit confused about BECT news from Beograd. Couple of
weeks ago, different contact was suggested (something like: pantic@yu...),
and it was said that the news will start comming on a regular basis sometimes
in May. I think that many would appreciate clarification on this, either from
Jure, or from na...@andrew.cmu.edu (later refused to talk about Croatian news
from Zagreb in this forum on my request, claiming that I am insulting him. I
hope that this inquiry can not be interpreted as insult again, so prompt
answer for all of us would be appreciated).
Pozdrav,
Dragan
I have been forwarding `BECT' since March (since the
demonstrations in Belgrade, I guess), due to the interest
expressed by the readers (and interest expressed in more
balanced news coverage). I have been getting my copy from
Srdjan Pantic, in Belgrade.
At certain point I was asked to post some messages
from Belgrade on the e-mail list, as I did. Similarly, it was
well known that I am forwarding `BECT' -- if the senders
find this inappropriate, I shall not do that in the future. While
doing that, I respected the integrity:
- I clearly post a message saying that the text in question is
being forwarded from `BECT'
- if I add something, I made it clear where it was added; if I
delete something, I made it clear as well [this was done only
once, I think; when I deleted several texts that already appeared
on this mailing list]
I intend to do the same as long as there is interest, and
I am not informed from the sender that he finds that inappropriate.
About the discussion on the profile of the news:
I have hard time answering the comments received from the
people subscribed, and I do not find any reason to discuss that
with those that are NOT subscribed; because I do not know
what are they getting. Anybody is welcome to subscribe, and
after that I shall find myself obliged to answer such questions.
The mailing list has a certain profile, and I think we
shall try to maintain it. We have up to 300K of texts per week,
and we are still trying to increase it. It's up to the readers to
choose what are they going to read. I disagree with some texts,
but they are still sent -- because some readers might like them.
Regards
Nenad Antoni\'c.
Let me repeat the contact addresses once more:
Contact addresses for regions are given below. Please do not send mail
to me before you try the appropriate address by region. Thank you.
There is one more mailing list. In English. Contact address:
abro...@watdragon.waterloo.edu
This English mailing list is a sublist of the big one (i.e. contains
all messages send to the big one that are in English, and, very rarely, a
translation of some articles originally posted on the big list). The traffic
is not that high, but we hope to improve it.
