White House warns Omicron explosion is imminent and WILL lead
to surge in hospitalizations - but it will be fast and won't be
as severe as Delta: U.S. infections triple - with only 27% of
the vaccinated getting their booster shot
. . .
There's a map associated :

It shows a significant uptick in covid cases over the past two
weeks - from 1% in Utah to 185% in Mass. Florida, Texas and Cal
are somewhere in the middle. Only five states show a decrease,
and they're mostly empty space
Most cases are Delta, but Omicron is starting to climb the charts.

This chart shows what percentage have gotten boosters. Maine and
Vermont top the list at almost 29% while Arizona and Alabama are
at the bottom at right around 10% uptake. Again Florida and Texas
are in the middle range.
The curious bit is that while Maine has the highest booster rate
it also has a 138% increase in cases. COULD be the boosters came
too late. Could also be they just TEST more ... finding more
asymptomatics.
In any case, these big spikes were expected after the TG holiday
where packs of unvaccinated people packed close together in small
rooms to suck down turkey and booze. Consider this a preview of
Xmas - but TG gave the virus a boost, now double the number of
infected coming to an Xmas affair near you.
I'm not sure how soon the new Pfizer PILL will be out in large
quantities. The numbers beat the shit out of horse medicine for
sure. But, by New Year, can people GET it ? The pill is also
very new, so odd short/long term side effects will appear as
the user group enlarges.
So, in summary, cases are well UP but booster consumption is
generally very lazy. It's the booster that'll give you an
big edge against Omicron - the two old doses OR previous
infection won't help you much.
