ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Ukrainian Canadian Business and
Professional Association of Windsor was held on Sunday. June 23,
2002. Our president Leisha Nazarewich called the meeting to order at 1:30
p.m.
Cathy Knight, our guest speaker, gave an informative and professional
presentation on "Doing Geneology Right." She had available a series of
handouts including data on accurate recording using a Family Tree Chart
and Pedigree Chart as prepared by the Library of Michigan. The "Suggested
List of Sources for the Study of Ukrainian Family History," "Getting
Started on Ukrainian Geneology," and "Ukrainian Research" all gave data
and resource agencies, books and other publications for starting
work on Ukrainian geneology. Leisha Nazarewich has extra copies of the
handouts for anyone who was unable to attend the meeting.
Cathy listed "Five Rules for Doing Geneology Right."
(1) Begin at the Beginning - Start with yourself or one of your children
and work backwards. Use birth, death, marriage, and divorce papers as
well as school, religious, and employment records to corroborate your
information. She listed several web sites where information can be
accessed.
(2) Record Your Information - There is a data collector computer program
GEDCM to assist with this.
(3) Document As You Go - Check what sources you used to establish each
link.
(4) Keep a Record of Where You Have Been - Use a research log.
(5) Share Your Information - Share with the people who helped you, your
family, publish a book, or create a web site.
ANNUAL Meeting: BUSINESS portion
President Leisha Nazarewich recapped some of our major donations. Over the
past year, we supported Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital's Cardiac Angiography
System, Windsor Regional Hospital's Digital Mammography, Anderdon School
Community Living Program, Rotary Club Telethon, and the cultural portion of
the Windsor Ukrainian Canadian Congress celebration of the Tenth
Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence. In addition, eight Heritage Awards
of $500 each were presented at our annual banquet in April.
Leisha emphasized that the two priorities for the coming year should be a
Membership Drive and the publishing of a new membership roster. As well,
Bill Kozak, Chair of the Bingo committee, will continue to investigate ways
for us to return to holding bingo sessions.
This was not an election year, so the same executive will continue in
office until June, 2003. However, we did receive with regret Luba Kosak's
resignation as chair of the Card and Flowers Committee. We need a volunteer
to fill this vacancy, Please call Leisha Nazarewich if you would be willing
to assume this responsibility.
DUES
Your 2002-2003 dues are payable as of July 1, 2002. Dues are $30 per
single member and $40 per couple. Please send your cheque to John Kisil,

UKRAINIAN ARTS
On July 13, 2002, the Art Gallery of Windsor opened its exhibition of
William Kurelek's "A Prairie Boy's Summer" in memory of the 25th
anniversary of his death. In addition to the paintings, the Gallery has a
beautiful display of Ukrainian cross stitch embroidery done by Luba Kosak
and some pysanky, including one by Oksana Pikush's mother. On July 19,
Oksana participated in the Gallery's Friday Live event with a 45 minute
program of Ukrainian songs. This was followed by a short dance program by
twelve members of the Barvinok Dance Ensemble under the direction of Taras
Rohatyn. Both performances were well received by a large audience.
On Sunday, August 11, from 12-3 p.m. Taras will be joined by Anne
Yaworsky, Eugene Masney and other instructors of the Barvinok Dancers to
explore and teach Ukrainian dance to the public. There also will be a
demonstration of Ukrainian Easter Egg writing by Halyna Regenbogen on that
afternoon.

August 9, 10, 11. Sunflower Festival, St. Josaphat Ukrainian Church
grounds, Warren, Michigan.
August 11. Annual family picnic of the Ukrainian National Federation
at the Windsor Campgrounds (formerly KOA), noon to 5 p.m.
August 11. Ukrainian Dance Workshop and pysanka writing demonstration, Art
Gallery of Windsor, 12-3 p.m.
August 25. Eleventh Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence will be
celebrated by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Windsor Branch.
Everyone is invited to attend a Divine Liturgy at noon and dinner
and a commemorative program starting at 1 p.m. Ukrainian Village,
Amherstburg.
September 15, 2002. Scholarship Tea. Ukrainian Women's Organization, 1033
Ottawa St., 2 p.m.
September 16. Ukrainian Canadian Business and Professional Association of
Windsor executive meeting. 7:30 p.m. 1033 Ottawa St. All members are
invited to attend.
October 6. St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral 75th
Anniversary Visitation and Banquet. Events and activities all

St. Food available at noon, bingo starting at 2 p.m.
October 21. Ukrainian Canadian Business and Professional Association of
