The report insists that efforts must be made to lure back
dentists from the lucrative private sector, where many have
fled, by offering better contracts based on work carried
out rather than targets which can see them actually lose
money for treating NHS patients.
Even then, restoring universal access 'would cost billions
each year', largely paying for care that people are currently
getting by paying privately at an enhanced rate.
The average fee for an initial consultation with a private
dentist is now £74 while the same appointment on the NHS
costs £25.80.

What is your 25.80 worth if YOU CANNOT GET SERVICE when
you want/need it ???
Let's see, what would Stalin do ? Arrest all private
dentists and sentence them to working for nothing in
the crap govt system ? :-)
Oh Brits ... do NOT put this past your current "leadership" ...
And what will be YOUR sentence when YOUR profession is "needed"
for 'socialized' endeavours ?
After WW2, the money situation greatly improved for the UK,
most Euro countries and the USA. Naturally, it was just
assumed the wealth would LAST FOREVER. So, why not fund
vast govt-run 'services', including 'health' ? Tax money
would pay, but everybody would still have lots of money
left to buy all the usual junk.
Well ... then was THEN ......
Now the UK is just a subsidiary of China Inc and its
people can barely afford paper for the loo. It'll be
back to the proverbial "stick" pretty soon.
In the USA, there is still a well-developed system
to see that people who cannot afford health care and/or
insurance plans can still get what they need. This
involves 'charity' orgs and VOLUNTEERED services by
professionals. Not always top-tier service, but it
is usually adequate. The UK now, there isn't even
"adequate".
And so shall return the famous "British Smile".
