1. BRIDGE GATHERINGS:
Dear TACS members,
As you would recall, we have previously announced that
TACS will be organizing a Bridge Tournament in January.
However, before the Tournament takes place, we are
organizing weekly gatherings for bridge players.
We meet every monday night at Northeastern University,
403 Ell Building. It is open to players of all levels.

Program:
The wide spectre of problems concerning description, storage and
treatment of material, spiritual and written historical sources as
well as creating, keeping, using and exchanging the advanced
electronic copies of historical objects - theoretical, methodological,
practical, technical, etc. will be touched.
Presentation formats:
Proposals may include individual papers (up to 15000 signs) and
short communications (about 2000 signs). The workshops, computer
presentations and discussion are also planned.
Both papers and communications are to be published.
An abstract of 200-300 words should be sent to:

Dunhuang Art and Society:
International Seminar
Dunhuang, China
June 22 - July 17, 1998 (4 weeks)
The Silkroad Foundation and the Dunhuang Research Academy will sponsor and
conduct a special seminar next year at Dunhuang, China. This seminar
provides a unique opportunity for scholars
and students to investigate and analyze the Dunhuang caves at the site. The
invited speakers include well-known Dunhuang specialists from the United
States and the Dunhuang Research Academy. In addition to the introductory
lectures, in-depth case studies will be discussed. Participants are expected
to complete a research paper by the end of the seminar.
FORMAT
Lectures are scheduled in the morning sessions. Participants visit the Mogao
caves and use the library of the academy in the afternoons, free of charge.
In addition, informal "talks" will be arranged in the evenings.
LANGUAGE
The official language of the seminar is English. The lectures by local
Chinese scholars will be translated.

Invited speakers include Dr. Albert Dien, Dr. Wu Hung, Dr. Ning Qiang, Dr.
Marylin Rhie, and Dr. Marsha Weidner from the US and Duan Wenjie, Fan

LOCATION
The Seminar will be held at the Mogao Caves, Dunhuang, China.
ACCOMMODATION
The Guest House at the Dunhuang Research Academy - $15 per day
(double occupancy). Additional $10 for 3 meals per day
SEMINAR FEE
The total fee is US$1000. The fee covers all seminar events over the four
weeks. The weekend trips to visit the neighboring caves ( ex. Yulin) are
optional and the cost
is not included.
