BANGKOK, Aug 15 (AFP) - Thailand's Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya
has vowed to make a fresh start in life after divorcing her American
husband whom she accuses of waging a "psychological war" on her,
according to an interview published here Sunday.
The princess, the eldest daughter of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and
Queen Sirikit who now lives in the United States, spoke of her
breakup with businessman Peter Jensen in a rare interview published
in the Nation daily.
"The children have become a bargaining tool, especially Nong
Bhumi who was born with autism and needs special care," she was
quoted as saying.
"He (Jensen) has declared psychological war on me. He doesn't
actually want the kids. He has a new girlfriend and has been living
with her elsewhere. But in spite of all that he still wants to hold
on to the house."
Princess Ubolratana, who renounced her royal title after
marrying an American, said she had filed for divorce on discovering
her husband was having an affair, the Nation said.
"I wasn't able to do much last year because I felt so
discouraged. But now it's time to make a fresh start in life," she
said.
The princess met Jensen while studying at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and married him in 1972.
The princess, who has been living in the US since then and has a
house in California, said she and Jensen were in an ongoing dispute
over the division of property and custody of their three children,
Ploypailin, 18, Bhumi, 16, and Sirikitiya, 14.

A GRANDSON of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej was among those killed when
tidal
waves smashed into southern Thailand, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra
said.
The body of Bhumi Jensen, 21, was found at the resort of Khao Lak in Phang
Nga province about 100m from where he was last seen jet-skiing before the
waves hit on Sunday.
"It's a national tragedy," Mr Shinawatra said.
The monarchy is revered in Thailand.
Two men with the crown prince at the time were still missing while Bhumi's
aide de camp survived.
Crown Prince Bhumi is the son of Princess Ubolratana and her estranged
American husband Peter Jensen. He was holidaying with his mother at the
time
but she was safe.
At least 839 people are confirmed dead in southern Thailand, the interior
ministry said.
Former finance and commerce minister Borom Tantian is among the dead,
newspapers reported.
The Nation said Mr Borom was swept away by a 10m wave as he was getting out
of his car outside the Palm Andaman Beach Resort in Phang Nga north of
Phuket.
His daughter Kantawan Kulchanyawiwat, an MP for the Democrat Party,
suffered
a broken arm while her youngest son, aged three, was swept away

Yes, but beware of believing everything you read in the papers. If his
mother's renunciation of title still stands (which I am pretty sure
that it does), then the newspapers presently describing the late Bhumi
as "Crown Prince" do not know what they are talking about and (in
Thailand) are presumably guilty of lese majeste.
