I had noticed the same thing when I was living in a Thai condo. You could
see the rusty reinforcement in several places where the cement had come
apart.
I was also impressed by the cracks in some walls, but Thai people living
there did not seem to worry. They mostly complained that the rent was too
expensive with so many powercuts and a poor soundproofing.
Although I had never said anything to my g/f, I was afraid that the builder
had put too much sand in the concrete.

**That bad eh???? I'll try and make a special effort next time just for you
Morty, and post something a LITTLE less 'painful' ;-)

No, I did not and I can't remember to have seen that in a bus or a train,
even among young Thai people in Bangkok.
A few months ago I was standing up in a bus that was overcrowed with female
students. In front of me, one of the girls was trying to sleep on the
shoulder of her friend who refused to let her do.
I proposed her my comfortable shoulder... without any success except a
burst of laugh <sigh>
Maybe I'm wrong about that but, although most of body contacts between a
man and a woman are forbidden in public, I think that it is allowed to rest
on your companion during a long journey.

Yes, thank you.
FYI, I have lived in eastern France near Germany the 25 first years of my
life. No coalmines but ironmines i.e. no black landscape but rust-coloured
landscape.
It was a strange environment for a kid; with my pals, we played in the
bunkers to find rifle bullets and German handgrenades. I saw the same
"child's game" in Laos with American weapons.

Several Bangkok ladies I know seem to be prejudiced in *favour* of western
men who don't look like sex-tourists: they are supposed to be more
faithful,
wealthier and to booze less than the average Thai men.
