***It's been such an interesting year for tamil movies and with the
arrival of Deepavali, things always get more exciting!.. This is the
'Kutti News' edition for Deepavali since we have plenty of 'kutti'
vambhus, isai and movie news to cover.. Arambikkalaama?..

***Vellithirai Vambhugal***

***"Vijayawada" Vijaylakshmi fights with Nagma.. Rambha, formerly known as
Vijayawada Vijaylakshmi, was recently interviewed by Anandha Vikatan..
Rambha was put in a tough situation of denying the supposed jagadaa
between her and Nagma!.. Rambha claims that nobody on the sets of
"Janakiraman" (hero: Saratkumar) bothered to introduce her to Nagma.. and
therefore, all the magazines just presumed that they were fighting!..
Totally, a different story from Nagma's end!.. When Nag was interviewed a
few months ago, avar AV kaarargal-ai paarththu Rambha patri porindhu
vittaar.. Adding more spice to this, Nagma came straight out and said
"Avar-ukkum (Rambha) ennakkum onnum competition ellaam illai!"..
Back to the recent interview with Rambha.. She says.. "We waited for
someone to introduce us.. after a while, we ourselves met and talked to
each other!.. We are such good friends!"..

***"Kaadhal Kottai"-yil nishapdham!.. After bombarding Ajeethkumar with
questions about his relationship with Heera.. now reporters dhisai
thiruppi.. have started flinging questions at Heera!.. Aanaal, Heera love
matter patri moochchu kooda vida maatten engiraar!.. As she said, in a
latest interview in Cinema Express: "Adhai patri naan yedhaiyum koora
virumbavillai!.. Yenn endraal paththirikkai-galukku karpanai vallam
adhikkam.."
***"Idhaya Kovil" almost idindhu vittadhu.. Actor Mohan is going through
one of the hardest and the happiest phases of his life.. He is making a
dramatic comeback with the help of Arjun, who wrote the story and
Director Manivannan, who wrote the dialogues, as Mohan stars and
directs "Santhosh".. That's where the happy part stops!.. A terrible
rumour started by people who are "anti-Mohan," for some reason, began
recently.. "Mohan died of AIDS.. His body was taken to Bangalore".. kept
spreading like wild fire.. Mohan's wife was in tears for many days,
receiving phone calls from relatives asking about Mohan!.. Luckily, Mohan
has taken this rumour in his stride and promises to work harder to make
"Santhosh" a success!.. Good Luck, Mohan!..

***Karthik's "modern" isai.. Karthik Raja seems to have been offered
opportunities to compose music for "Muthu" and "Valli" a while back!.. He
refused to take both offers claiming that those films could not give him
the chance to compose his 'modern' music!.. Interestingly, Anandha
Vikatan's "Lights-On" Vinod pointed to "Unakena Raasa" from the film
"Maanikkam" to be the 'modern' trend of music that Karthik likes to
experiment with!.. (Hmmm... Rajini padathth-ula illaadha modern music
scope-a?..)
***A.R.Rahman oliththi vaiththirukkum singing talents?.. Well, two more
new singers have made head way after the "Mr. Romeo" sountrack was
released recently!.. Anto and Sangeetha Sajeeth.. If you noticed closely,
the C.D. cover for the "Thiruda Thiruda" album indicated Anto as one of the
singers who sang as a member of the 'harmony.' Sangeetha Sajeeth is not
a new singer, by any means.. She made her debut in tamil movie music under
Adhithyan's music direction.. She sang in the films "Asuran" and "Thottil
Kuzhandhai" (Song: 'Kannaaley Valai Veesu' with Adhithyan himself!).. It
appears Sangeetha never sung under any other music director except for
Adhithyan, for quite a long time!.. Ippodhu ivviru-varukkum adhistam
adiththu vittadhu!..
***Pazhani Bharathi's 'thaththuva' english.. The famous lyricist of
"Ullaththai Allithaa" and "Mettukkudi" and the aasthaana lyricist of
Director Sundhar C., Pazhani Bharathi's vaazhkkai-yil oru azhagiya
laila-vum vandhu vittar!.. Bharathi recently married his mama ponnu, and
proudly walked up on stage to receive his award for the success of "Ul.
Al.Thaa".. all around the same time!.. Pondaatti-kku perumai!.. He also
wears a beard, a sign of an intelligent man, you might say!.. Ivar udaiya
latest thaththuva paadalgal-il oru brilliant sample idho:

***New northie irakkumadhis.. Meet Lisa Ray.. Bengali Model, who is
tremendously popular in Bombay for her swim suit ads.. Her first film is
"Nethaaji" with Saratkumar, expected for release this Deepavali.. The only
reason, the Canada educated Ray signed to act in the film, was because
bengalis have a lot of patru for Nethaji Subhaash Chandrabose!.. Andha
patril ulla poorippil Ray jumped at the chance!.. Ivar innum thamizh
kaatru kolla vendiya category-a serndhavar!.. So, does Paayal.. a new
arrival from Delhi, to star with Arunkumar (Vijaykumar's son), in
"Kannalane".. She stars in one Telegu and one Hindi film besides her new
found tamil venture.. Tata to school after 12th grade, Paayal currently
worries about the fact that she is short!.. (Heel shoe, irukkave irukku!)..
One last heroine to join this group is Kuku Singh, who stars with Sanjay
("Valli") in "Punnagai Pookkal".. Though quite an attractive woman,
info on her is pretty sketchy at this point!.. More on the way, later!..
***Actor Vijaykanth and Producer Ibrahim Rauthar have been such good
dosths for quite a long period of time.. From this friendship mullaichchu-fies
four new tamil movie productions by Ib. Rau.. under the Rauthar films
banner!.. VijayK dhaya-vil Ibrahim Rauthar-ukku kushi dhaan!..
***Ulavuthurai.. Vijaykanth's 150th film in tamil.. co-starring Prakashraj
and Charuhassan.. Music by newcomer Shah and director by newcomer Ramesh
Selvan.. This appears to be a big budget film, but taken in a short time!..
Can be expected for release in Pongal '97!..
***Dhinamum Ennai Gavani.. Ramki, Sangavi, Prakashraj, Vivek all star.. in
this film, which is also expected for Deepavali.. Music is by Sirpi, while
direction is by A.R.Ramesh!.. This also appears to be a relatively small
budget film!..
***Aasai Thambi.. Arunpandian ("Thuraimugam,"), Abbaas ("Kaadhal Desam"),
Anju Arvind ("Poove Unakkaaga," "Ennakoru Magan Pirappan,") Kasaan Khan
all star in this film, which began shooting on Oct 1st!.. Music by
Adithyan.. Direction: Senthilnaadhan..
***Livingston's own!.. Livingston, who made his debut as a hero in
"Sundhara Purushan"..kaattil mazhai kotto kottu yendru kottu giradhu!.. He
gets his second chance in Ib. Rau's still untitled production.. to write a
story, screenplay, dialogues and act as the hero.. Since Su. Pu.'s was
such a great hit, Sirpi continues to be Liv's most trusted music director..
while newcomer Parthasarathi gets his chance to prove his talent in
direction!..
***Pudhu pada poojais galore.. 'Bhagyam Cine Arts' "Rettai Jadai
Vayadhu"-ukku most recent-aaga poojai pottaargal!.. Obviously, K.Bhagyaraj
doesn't have time to direct films in tamil anymore, since he feels he
could succeed better in Hindi.. but he does have time to produce this film
under his production banner, promoting Pazhanisaami as the official
producer.. Ajeethkumar ("Aasai," "Kaadhal Kottai"), Manthra ("Priyam,")
star.. while C. Sivakumar ("Aayudha Poojai") directs his second film!.. A
very interesting side note, Ajeeth, Goundar, and Manthra were all given
garlands.. and guess what, Goundar had the biggest, tallest garland around
his neck!.. Iththanai-kkum Ajeeth hero-nu peyiru!.. Hmm.. wonder what
Ajeeth was thinking?..
***M.G.Pictures, who recently released the fairly popular "Siva Shakthi"
have launched their new production, "Thenaali Raaja".. The poojai was well
attended with big stars Arjun, Nivedhitha (who makes her official debut in
Arjun's "Thaayin Manikodi"), Director Selva ("Amaravathy," "Karna"), and
Sathyaraj.. Pretty festive occasion.. though we still don't know who
actually plays the hero of the film!..
***News.. a new film starring Vijayashanthi and Ramki was launched
recently.. R.Aravindharaj, whose last film "Musthafa" faired rather
poorly, directs this film!..
***From 'Raththika' to 'Rosni'.. Nagma's dream has finally come true!..
Ivalavu naal thavam kidandha-dharkkum, directors' kaal-la vizhaadha
kurai-ya kenjiya-dharkkum.. nalla returns.. Her sister, Raththika has been
able to venture into tamil films with the signing of "Shishya" with
Karthik playing the lead.. Direction by "Karna" Selva.. Maybe it was just
the name change.. but 'Raththika' has become 'Rosni' without the 'h'.. in
order to succeed in tamil films!.. Rosni, strongly states that she doesn't
want to be like her sister and wants to do a combination of glamour +
acting scope films!.. Oru kaalaththil ellorum sollum kadhai dhaan.. hmm..
paarpom.. ivaru-kaavadhu acting + glamour varumaa-nu!..
***Rohini's directorial aspirations.. Recently, Rohini was asked if she
would leave the movie industry, just because she got married.. Rohini
sonnaar: "Naangal ondru serndhadhe cinema-vaal dhaan!.. we will still
continue acting, writing stories and even directing films!.. I think I can
direct now, since I have some experience in that arena!..".. Raghuvaran
had also recently related his grievance that nobody has yet to give him
his "role-of-a-lifetime!".. Maybe, just maybe, one of these days, Rohini
might fulfill his dream by directing a film with a suitable 'role-of-a-
lifetime" role for Raghuvaran!.. Rohini 'marupadiyum' oru kalakku
kalakku-vaara?..
***Meet Reshma.. After a rekindling of her career with "Kizhakku Mugam"..
she is acting in a handful of tamil films including "Vennila" with
Ajeethkumar and Amar Siddique ("Karuppu Roja" hero), Vedimuthu (a supposed
Vairamuthu sakkalaththi?!).. produces and sings a song.. while newcomer
Thalabadhi composes music and Ravikumar, also a new comer directs.. "Nandha"
with Ramki and Vadivelu.. direction by Rajasekar.. and "Poomani" with
Murali, Devayaani, Prakashraj and Manivannan.. Music by Ilaiyaraja..
Direction by Kalanjiyam (former associate to Director Vasanth!)..
A little 'jinx' story to tell about Reshma.. She was driving a bicycle in
"Kizhakku Mugam".. when the brakes froze.. Paavam.. oru aattu mandhai-yil
poyi idiththaar!.. She was driving a car in "Vennila," when her leg got
stuck between the brake and accelerator, she banged into a tree!.. Reshma
plans on coming for a star show in Canada and the U.S.!.. Sponsors
jaagiradhai.. yedhukkum oru full-time chauffer assign pannaal better-o?..
***Besides Suvalakshmi, Swarna ("Thaai Manasu," "Maayabazaar 1995")
co-stars with Karthik in Agathiyan's "Gokulaththil Seethai".. Sruthi, the
Kannada actress, who makes her debut in K.Balachandar's "Kalki" currently
stars with Ramesh Arvind in "Karpoora Bommai".. Eeshwari Rao, who makes
her debut in Balu Mahendra's "Raman Abdhula".. also stars in "Kootaali"
with Karthik.. Direction by John Amritharaj.. Ramarajan has already laid
out plans for his new production "Raamar-padai" co-starring Sangita and
Anju Arvind (who starred together in "Poove Unakkaaga" earlier in 1996)..
The film is under the "Nalini Cine Arts" banner, to be produced by Nalini
Ramarajan.. and plans to show a city-oriented Ramarajan!.. set-aside the
gramarajan for a while!..
***"Super Good Films" R.B.Choudhri might have re-titled his film
"Paamaran" to "Suryavamsam".. or so it appears.. since Saratkumar and
Director Vikraman are the same people associated with this film as well!..
S.A.Rajkumar composes music!.. K.R.G. Creations went into full swing with
their new production "Cheran Chozhan Pandian" with music director
Soundaryan, Anand Babu, Kushboo, Ranjeeth ("Minor Mappillai") and director
Senthamizhan honoring the function with their presence!.. K.B.Films
launched their new film "Vaakapatta Bhoomi" with story writer R.Selvaraj,
Director Bharathiraja, Sathyaraj, Saratkumar all attending the function..
yet no sign of Rajkiran, at least in the press photographs!.. Wonder why
he wasn't there?!.. Kushboo stars as the 'thaai kula thalaivar' Rajkiran's
pair in the film!..
