Hi all,

I have heard that Ambikapathy-Amaravathy is a romantic novel (play?)
written by Kambar. I would like to know what it is all about. Is
it as tragic as Romeo&Juliet? How is the story like? Is the story
something like majority of Tamil movies? Is the story available in
print? I live in Toronto(The best city to live and do business in the
world :), according to Forbes magazine)...Can I get this book in any
of the Tamil book stores here?

Sincerely,
-Maran Senathirajah

What a pity, it is! A Tamizh wants to know about Kamban and asking
whether Ambikabathi & Ameravathi has a similarity to William S.'s
Tragedy. Where are we going?
It is not a novel or play. And it is not written by Kambar. But,
Ambikabathi is Kambar's son.It is not totally a sort of Romeo & Juliet.
Kambar atleast is not against his son's love, though he warned him about
the problem of falling in love with a king's daughter. And, Kambar was
the State Poet of the king (not the enemy, atleast until the death of
his son).
I do not know whether you get it in the bookstores.
But, many scholars in this sct can enlighten you more than me on this.

This "shallow" Tamil thinks that the movie "Amibikaapathy" with Nadigar
Thilagam Sivaji in the title role and Bhanumathi as Amaraavathi was
wonderful! May be on video! One meomorable song: Maasilaa NilavE nam
kaadhalai magizhvOdu maanilam koNdaaduthE!" Check it out! - ganesh
