***Mudhalil "Super Star" News.. as always!.. Rajini, Crazy Mohan and
Director Sundhar C. are having a ball filming "Arunaachalam" for its April
14th release.. With a stomach tearing laugh attack story, Crazy's
dialogues, Deva who never lets Rajini down ever.. and a humungous
Kodambakkam pattalam star cast.. Rajini is all set to slam bang the box
office this time!.. It surely appears to be a rip roaring comedy (without
the 'amma' jokes, of course!).. co-starring Soundharya, Ramba, Jaishankar,
Ravichandran, 'Venniraadai' Nirmala, Raghuvaran, Manorama, Vadivelu,
Senthil, Nizhalgal Ravi, Janakaraj, Visu, Crazy Mohan, Vinu Chakravarthy,
(No, innum mudiyalai! There's more!) Kitti, Sakthikumar, Raja, Ponnambalam,
Vittal, Anju Arvind, Vadivukarasi, K.R.Vijaya, K.R.Vatsala and last but
not least, Jayaram!.. (WHEW!)..
There are always memorable moments in all Rajini films.. this time,
Soundharya's screen name is "Vedhavalli" in the tradition of "Ranganayaki"
in "Muthu." and by-now the world famous dialogue has also be written,
specially ordered by Rajini: "Andha Aadavan sollaran.. indha Arunachalam
Mudikkiraan!".. More news comes as a whole band of reporters assembled at
Hydrabad to participate in a press meet style scene in "Arunachalam"..
Among the prominent people in this press koottam were Varadharajan and
Suresh Chakravarthi!.. It appears to be such a kalakkal scene that neither
the film crew nor the reporters wish to talk about it!.. "Moooochu vida
koodaadhu" are the rules!..
Remember Vairamuthu's famous lyric from the "Muthu" song, "Oruvan Oruvan
Mudhalaali".. "Kazhuththu-varaikkum kaasu irundhaal adhu dhaan unakku
yejamaanan".. Well, that is the message in this film: "Alavu-kku meeri
panam irundhaal, amaidhi kaana mudiyaadhu. Alavaana selvame aaryogya-maana
vaazhkkai." STORY TIME: Neither the producers, director or Rajini have
made any efforts to hide the story: ulagam arindha unmai.. but anyway,
Mama ponnu Soundharya gives Rajini a lakh of rupees to spend within a
certain amount of time, without giving it to charity. If he successfully
spends the money, he would win her hand in marriage!...
With brilliant sidekicks in Janakaraj and Senthil,~ Rajini embarks into
various professions.. instead of kottai vitt-ing the money, he makes
tremendous profits, which begins to drive him crazy gradually!.. Horse
racing, card game, begins his own business, and goes as far as producing a
film.. Paavam Rajini tries everything.. what will be the end?.. Rajini and
Sundhar C. are ready to say 'velli thirai'-yil kaannga!.. "Arunaachalam
Avar Dhaanda" without a question!!..
***"Azhagiya 'LAILA'.. NOT!.. Poor Kalaipulai S.Thaanu!.. He has had one
up-and-down situation already in 1997!.. A perfectly nice newcomer Laila
was signed to star in his production "V.I.P." with Prabhudeva, Abbas, and
Rambha.. and Thaanu was pretty thrilled about it, to say the least!..
Appuram one gundu after another came.. Laila wanted to stay in a 5 star
hotel all the time, with her own makeup man and costumer. Moreover, she
wanted Thaanu to pay for these people seperately!.. She became worse as
she complained that Thaanu and Director Sabhapadhy ("Sundhara Purushan")
did not give her the respect she deserved!.. Oru vazhiyaa Thaanu
successfully threw her out the film and signed Amitabh Bachchan's Hindi
arimugam Simran ("Tere Mere Sapne") to star in his "V.I.P." The entire
film crew of "V.I.P." were thrilled to see Laila leave and be replaced by
Simran!..
Simran is in demand today.. as Thaanu was in a race to beat Bharathiraja
to sign her first for his film!.. BR plans to star her in "Siragugal
Murivadhillai! (Heera still paavam dhaan!).. Simran is also expected to
star in an M.G.Pictures' film with Abbas.. Ramba might have ammukki-fied
the role.. no word on it yet!..
***The Ramki-Kushboo jodi is in demand today!.. Besides Director
N.Ratnam's "Kalyaana Vaibogam," the pair has been signed by K.R. (once
again, after "Enakkoru Magan Pirappan") to star in his new venture:
"Thaali Pudhusu".. Aanalum, we shouldn't forget that Ramki is indeed
K.R.'s aasthaana hero!.. K.R. is also in the process of shooting "Kaadhal
Rojave" starring Pazhaya actress Sheela's son Ashok (name changed to
Vishnu) and Bangalore Miss World M.C. Pooja (who was also chosen as "Miss.
India" in America).. Ilaiyaraja composes music for "Kaadhal Rojave," no
word on the music director of "Thaali Pudhusu"..
***Suresh Krishna waited patiently until January 1st, 1997 to name the two
'pudhu malargal,' in his new film "Aahaa," produced by 'Goodnight' Mohan.
When Jan 1st came around, he named his hero Chandresh and heroine Sulekha!
"Aahaa" also stars Bhanupriya, Vijyakumar, Raghuvaran, Delhi Ganesh and
Srividya. Dialogues by Crazy Mohan.. Music by Deva!.. Meanwhile, Nasar
began his second venture as director ("Avathaaram" being his first), in
"Devathai" co-starring Vineeth ("May Maadham"), newface Keerthi,
'Thalaivaasal' Vijay, Janakaraj, Sathyapriya and others. The shooting
began in Dubai under the Indus Film Factory banner (not Chandamama
Combines?!). The film is sort of a period venture.. with a few scenes
retelling a story occurring 500 years ago and fast forwarding to today..
Ilaiyaraja composes music.
***Prakashraj becomes a hero finally.. in "Pirandha Naal" under the
direction of K.B. Rajil (real name Saravanan, who worked as K.Bhagyaraj's
assistant previously)!.. Sangita, Manivannan, Vadivelu, Sanjay, Karan,
Jayaganesh star.. Despite a few stories that Prakash was debuting as a
hero in Director Adhiyaman's "Swarnamukhi," he has decided the "Pirandha
Naal" will give him the 'hero' honors.. Sakshi created quite a galaaatta
on the sets of "Maapillai Goundar".. After begging and pleading for long
periods of times.. oru vazhiyaaga Director Manivasakam was able to
convince her to wear a swimsuit-looking dress (not quite the same thing!..
Northie nadigai-yaa irundhu kondu ivalavu adam pidikkalaamo?).. Her two
films "Pudhayal," and "Maappillai Goundar" both hit screens this year..

***Rajeev Menon makes no efforts to hide that his passion is cinematography!..
As he declared in his interview to Kumudham: he wishes to be a camerman
for ten years and achieve considerable success in that!.. Though Mani
ivar-ai "Roja," "Bombay" padangal-il hero role tharugiren.. "Vaa..Vaa"
yendru azhaiththaalum.. Menon hung on tight to his camera work!.. Menon
makes no efforts to hide that he had considered shortening PrabhuD's
role in "Minsaara Kanavu".. but AVM being a well established production
company for so many years, shot down the idea and decided to experiment
with the original screenplay!.. Despite popular belief, PrabhuD's character
"Deva" remained the same length from beginning to end!.. Since Rajeev
loves cinematography so much.. inimel adikkadi direct seivaara.. remains a
big question!..
***As of February 10th, Aamni ammani will become Thirumathi Aamni Kaja.
She is to marry Roja Combines Kaja (who produced "Gopala Gopala") Aaga,
indha "pudhayal"-ai yaaro adiththu kondu odugiraargal!.. S.P.Balasubramaniam's
son Charan married a Marathi girl in Chennai recently!.. Ilaiyaraja and
his wife Jeeva were present to honor the function and bless the newly wed
couple.. Paavam S.P.B., he was anxiously expecting A.R.Rahman and Rajini
to attend the function!.. Avalavu neram kaaththirundhum.. no sign of
either of them at the event!..
***Meena's mommy Rajamallika who has been an actress of yester years has
started badgering her daughter to get married!.. Meena innum Shah Rukh,
Salman, Aamir-oda ellam nadikkanum.. appuram paarkkalam yendru solligirar!
Honestly all cine mommies are quite worried after the Sridevi incident!..
Since Meena has completed a full run of Kodambakkam, having already
starred with Kamal and Rajini.. her fans have started to ask her to star
with Ajeeth, Prasanth, Arunkumar, Vijay, Abbas.. aka young ones!.. It
appears the Meena is getting ready to star in a film with Abbas!..
Viraivil more details will be available!.. Meena is back to square one,
starring with Rajkiran (her first film as heroine was "En Raasavin
Manasule") and Roja in Sangili Murugan's "Paasamulla Pandiyare"..

***"Malgova Maami"-kku thani Mousu!.. Fathima Babu seemed to have struck a
cord with a few major producers recently!.. Everyone seems to sign her for
a special role in their film!.. She stars as Anupam Kher's wife in
"Kalaipuli" S.Thaanu's "V.I.P." and in a special role in Rajkiran's
"Paasamulla Paandiyare".. Music Director M.S.Vishwanathan acts with
Ajeethkumar and Assam azhagi Manu in "Kaadhal Mannan".. Whether it is a
cameo or full length role.. details are still sketchy!.. Sangita has
managed to squeeze in a role for her brother Amithkumar in "Punniavathi."
Newcomer Subburaj directs the film, as Ilaiyaraja's soundtrack for the
film was released few weeks ago!.. A newcomer Joha also makes
her debut in the film!.. Periyardasan, who acted as Rajshri's father in
"Karuththamma" told Bharathiraja a story recently.. Thrilled with it, BR
has agreed to star in the film as the hero, while Periyardasan himself
takes the reins in direction!..

begun his next new project under K.S.Ravikumar's direction titled "Pista"..
The poojai was attended by actors Karthik and Saratkumar.. but Prabhu
might probably join Karthik playing the lead role.. First time since "Agni
Natchatram"..
***Vijay and Sivaji Ganeshan are all set to star in S.A.Chandrasekaran's
new venture (since his last "Maanbumigu Maanavan" hit an all time low!)..
Deva composes music, as C.V.Rajendran pens the screenplay and dialogues!..
Heroine.. Northie or Sangavi in all great probability!
***Prabhu Deva dances in the midst of 1 lakh bommais and dolls of
various sizes and shapes in a song sequence for "V.I.P.".. Abbas, Rambha,
Simran, Anupam Kher and Fathima Babu star in "Kalaipuli" S.Thanu's film
with direction by S.D.Sabhapadhy ("Sundhara Purushan") Music by newcomer
Ranjeeth and dance chereography by Saroj Khan!.. This film can be expected
for Deepavali 1997, but never rule Tamil New Year's out!..
***"Belli Shandhadi" the mega hit telegu movie gets a polished look in a
remake starring Vijay and Rambha!.. Co-starring Goundamani, Senthil,
Manivannan and others.. this film still remains untitled!.. Famous
dialogue writer of "Ullaththai Allithaa," "Mettukkudi" and the upcoming
"Janakiraman" (all Sundhar C. films), Selvabharathi will make his
directorial debut!.. Adi Dhool!..
***"Love Today" a new film from the film factory of R.B.Choudhri aka
"Super Good Films," has begun its shooting alongside Vikraman's "Suriyavamsam"
LT stars Vijay, Suvalakshmi, Karan, Manthra and Raghuvaran.. Music is by
newcomer Shivas and direction by newcomer Balasekar..
***After quite a dismal "Poovarasan".. something has prompted Karthik to
take up Director Gokulakrishna's next venture titled "Udhavikku Varalaama?"
co-starring Devayani and two more heroines in the selection stage!.. The
film portrays Karthik in three different get-ups!.. Hindu, Muslim and
Christian!.. Manivannan co-stars as well!..
***Sivashri Pictures ("Subaash") began their new adventure with quite a
lot of hopes considering Crazy Mohan writes the dialogues for "Thedinen
Vandhadhu" starring Prabhu, Manthra, Goundamani, V.A.Murthy, Crazy Mohan
and after quite a long hiatus, Prathap Pothen enters the scene!.. Sirpi
composes music!..
***Pandiyarajan has decided that 'same word repetition' titles bring him
luck!.. After the great success of "Gopala Gopala," he has begun work on
"Kabadi Kabadi," a film produced by Poornima Bhagyaraj and story and
dialogues by 'Guru' K.Bhagyaraj..
***"Annan" is 'Gramarajan' Ramarajan's next film co-starring Swathi and
music by Ilaiyaraja.. Anu Mohan ("Mettupatti Miraasu") directs!..
"Kaangeyam Kaallai" is Parthiban's next offering after the anxiously
needed success of Cheran's "Bharathi Kannamma".. Ravali ("Thiru Moorthy")
Anju Arvind, Manivannan, Anandharaj and Nagesh star with music by
Ilaiyaraja (after a long time for a Parthi film!)..
***V.C.Guhanathan's distinct talent in dialogue writing for comedies was
well appreciated in "Minsaara Kanavu".. Even after "Minor Maappillai" went
bust last year, V.C.G. is back making "Kaadhalar Poonga" with Arunpandian,
Roja, Mansoor Alikhan, Radha Ravi and a new bombay irakkumadhi!.. Sirpi
composes music, while most of the shooting will take place in Australia!..
More Indhiyans in Kangaroo Land again!..
***Ramki and Sangavi have also become a dhideer hot pair!.. They star in
"Pondaatti Potta Mudichchu," "Dhinamum Ennai Gavani" and now, "Aahaa,
Yenna Poruththam".. (unless they changed the name of DEG into AYP).. Who
knows?.. Director Gurudhanapal is trying to pull three rabbits out of one
hat, right now!.. Besides his "Periya Idaththu Mappillai" and "Periya
Manushan".. he has scheduled to begin his next Jayaram venture titled
"Raja Magal".. Sruthi ("Kalki"), Goundar, Senthil, Manivannan, Prakashraj,
Geetha all star!..
***Director Selva is currently enjoying the success of "Pudhayal" and has
begun work on his next project titled "Thenaali Raja".. The soundtrack of
"Shishya" was released recently.. indicating the film might release for
Tamil New Year's Day!.. "Thenaali Raja" stars Arjun.. no word on the
heroine yet!.. Actor Selva returns after the success of "Naatupura Paattu"
with another 'naattupura' padam: "Naattupura Naayakan" with Swathi under
the direction of (the naai-nari-poonai-yaanai loving) Rama Narayan. A
Hungarian woman called Timia co-stars, as S.A.Rajkumar composes music!..

A lot of people and critics praised Raja for his work on "Poomani." A few
songs in "Raman Abdhulla" also sound good!.. It appears Raja is back with
a bang, after all!.. He has also finished "Punniavathi," and the album has
been released recently!.. "Malligai-kku Marudhaani," "Kaadhal Graamam,"
"Kaadhal Rojave," "Kaangeyam Kaallai" are some of this newest projects!..
