Even grass can be an useful tool for a clever person!

A single grain of rice is enuf to say if a pot full of rice is
cooked.

An elephant is equally precious/valuable, whether alive / dead.
I don't know what this proverb implies, but I think it could
be somethg about how some people try to give their best at all
times. Correct me if I am wrong.

These are not proverbs - these are idioms

I think this is not what is meant. "Ammi" is a heavy block of
stone used for grinding "araiththal" of condiments.
I think this pazhamozhi says:
Eventhough the ammi is heavy , it CAN be moved if you keep giving
kicks or pushes persistently. There is no reference to tortoise
( which is aamai in Tamil). A similar
pazhamozhi meaning identically the same theme is:
Erumbu oora kallum theyum.
[ erumbu = ant, "kal" = stone
"they" = to wear out (here it means
it will form tracks) ]
meaning: Even ants moving on stone can leave tracks on stone !
One might have noticed the wear and tear on the metal handles
of doors used in public places but I am not so sure that a stream
of ants marching can leave a track ( not impossible in principle
unless the "kal" grows at a faster rate !). These pazhamozhi's
show the importance of perseverence and persistence.
