***As always, the tamil movie industry is currently having a difficult time
with its usual share of strikes for the year.. yet the huge offerrings of
kisu kisus, isai and movie news still continue.. Definitely plenty to
cover.. so arambikkalaama?!..

***Velliththirai Vambhugal***
Shandaigal, Modhalgal, Kaadhals, Pointing fingers, etc. etc..

***Alavukku adhigamaana "Priyam".. Poor Arunkumar, considering he is
trying to strengthen a shaky career.. ippo kisu kisu onnu dhaan
baakki!... Just so happens, everyone is gleeful over Manthra and him
starring together in "Priyam".. and continue on to star in "Ganga
Gowri".. As the love rumours fly, Arunkumar spends all his time defending
himself that he isn't in love with Manthra!.. Say some producer decides to
sign the pair for a movie after "Ganga Gowri,".. Arunkumar-idam shaakku pokku,
denial, excuses, ellam kai vasam irukkiraadha.. adhaan theriyavillai!..

***"Roja"-vin mullu kuththi, "Iruvar"-in pirivu?!.. Basically lots of bad
news for that "maniyaana" director.. But of course, he majorly
sodhdhappu-fied his relationship with the now sarva-desha popularity ulla
music director!.. The music director has now put his foot down and said:
"I am not working with the director anymore... 1) because he orders me
around and expects me to come anywhere at all hours of the day to
compose music for his films.. 2) because other producers are willing to
pay me in the lakhs and crores, he still pays me the beginning/old salary!"..
Inimel, 'ellam iraivan seiyal' dhaan!.. Vennilaa, Vennilaa, Vennilaave..
vandhadhe mudhal modhal!!..

***Yuva takes flight!.. Kodambakkam loves 'secret' weddings.. and Yuvarani
decided to have just that!.. She secretly tied the knot with a Malaysian
rubber factory owner named Ravichandran on September 15th, 1996... Just
so happens, except for close family relatives, no press reporters and
members of the media were invited to the wedding!.. Yuva was always among
those paavam heroines in Tamil movie land.. She earned just enough to pay
for her make-up and costumes and run a household.. Her father Gopalakrishna
Raju initially moved his government job from Pudhukkottai to Madras just
to support Yuva in her acting aspirations.. But sadly, Yuva never really
made it big!.. She lived in a rented home with an old car and practically
no luxury until she finally decided to quit and get married!..

Ravichandran had proposed to Yuvarani during one of her "Star Show" trips
to Malaysia.. She had visited his home on many occasions and started to
fall for him in the process.. Kaadhal medhuvaaga malara, cinema market
pada pada-vena sariya.. Yuvarani gradually began to yengu-fy for married
life, kids etc. etc.. She and her father theetu-fied a plan where they
informed all the newspapers that Yuva had got a job in London which paid
Rs. 60,000 a month and that she had already moved to London.. This was
indeed a big lie.. and Yuva and her father claim that they feel bad for lying..

Interestingly, Yuva's father claims that her wedding occurred without
invitations, without a kutcheri and without photographs.. Then,
what is there to prove that Yuva did marry Ravichandran?.. Ellarum
serndhu reel vidugiraar-galo?!.. Hmm..

After the wedding, Ravichandran left for Malaysia promising to make
arrangements for a visa for Yuva to join him.. After almost 4-5 months of
poojai and kadavul-ai vendudhal.. Yuvarani finally got her visa to go
join Ravichandran in Malaysia.. Her father says that Yuva is happy there
with her husband and his family!..
(No "Naakkaallay Mookkai Thod-ing" business, anymore?!)..

***I am a "Pullaikkuttikaran".. Leave me alone!.. Parthiban also belongs
in the Paavam category.. After being badgered for so long about his love
affair with actress Sangita.. he finally blew his top recently.. After
reading a paththirigai seidhi which said that Parthi brought Sangita into
his home.. In turn, Sita was heart broken and left home permanently!..
This was just about the worst kisu kisu that Parthi could possibly take!..
In a kaara shaara interview with Kumudham, he made it very clear that he would
under no circumstance do "dhrogam" to Sita and the children!.. After all,
he could never be such a "kall nenjakkaaran"..

Impressed by Sangita's good acting performance in "Sarigamapadhanee"..
Parthi placed Sangita under a written contract and signed her to star in
"Karuppannasami".. But that film went into the dumps even before
production started.. Instead Sangi starred in "Pullaikkuttikaaran"..
During her time under Parthi's contract, many producers excitedly came to
sign Sangita to star in their films.. As a polite gesture, Sangi always
consulted Parthi or had producers deal with him directly.. She also took
his car to story telling sessions of other producers.. All this led
people to believe that Sangi and Parthi had something going!..

Finally, Parthi was asked whether he minded Sangita starring with him in
"Vaaimaiye Vellum".. Fearing 'anaavasya kisu kisu'.. Parthi said, "Kettu
paarungal".. Interestingly, Sangita seemed to have anticipated kisu kisu
troubles herself and said 'no,' stating call sheet problems.. Parthiban
has made it absolutely clear.. He and Sangita will NEVER EVER act in
films together.. They won't even say "HI" to each other if they meet in any
event or function.. As it is, Parthi claims that he hasn't seen Sangita in
over a year.. so why would he bring her home?.. and why would Sita get angry?..
Nothing makes sense.. Hopefully.. Parthi's "Pudhiya [Sangita illaadha] Paadhai"
will help!

***"Naattammai"-kku kovam poththi kondu varugiradhu!.. Actor Sarathkumar
has had quite a lot happen in his life lately!.. First, he dumps his wife
Chaya, who in turn, goes to a separate home, runs a travel agency and
gives a nenjai thodara interview to Anandha Vikatan, asking her husband
to come back to her!.. Then, Sarat gets involved in a deep kaadhal matter
with actress Nagma.. Idhil paaavam Nagma.. She built a house with her own
savings.. and everybody started saying it was all Sarath's money!..

Moreover, Sarath is up to neck in controversy over his statements against
Director Maniratnam and the film "Iruvar"... Above all there is yet
another juicy interview that Sarath gave Kumudham.. A.V.M. Saravannan had
made a statement about how he wanted cinema stars to kuraichchu-fy their
salaries.. Sarath barked back: "Could he please tell us how much he paid
that "Mumbai" heroine for his latest venture (aka "Minsaara Kanavu")..
Why, he could have taken the very same film with small stars and made it
a hit if he wanted.. If he wanted to take a movie with big stars, he
shouldn't complain!"..

Sarath-ai poruththa varaikkum.. he says he is very clear cut about his
personal life.. He has given a lot of thought to all the occurences in
his life, including his divorce proceedings with Chaya.. According to
Sarath.. "Naan yedha seidhaalum.. adharkku oru kaaranam irukkum.."..
Since some things are still left to be decided in court, Sarath refuses
to discuss them in the interview.. but he does say: "Naan thavaru
seiyavillai enbadhai aannitharamaaga solli kolla virumbukkiren."..
Naattaamai himself in court!.. This must be the first time!..

***"Ponn Vizha" kondaadiya niruvanath-thin miga periya peyir konda
producer has already signed this almost ulagam arindha isai amaipaallar..
Just so happens that the music director wanted to go compose music in
some serene island somewhere.. Seri.. thaan produce seiyum big budget
padam.. adhuvum Karishma Kapoor nadikkum mudhal thamizh padaththukku.. nalla
music vara mvendum enbadhar-kkaaga.. the producer went and found a
suitable island for the music director to compose!.. Ippo ennadaa-na MD
does not like that island.. Avar aasai-yai poorththi seiya, the producer
is back on the road looking for a better island!.. "Kanavu" kaannum
producer-ukku indha "electricity shock" thevai dhaana?..

***Latest kis kis.. is indeed about the extremely GUNDU nadigar and the
'priyam'-ulla nadigai.. It just so happens that the GUNDU nadigar had a
long long term relationship with the "Sundhar"-ai naadiya GUNDU nadigai..
Finally, things didn't work out.. Now, the 'priyam'-ulla nadigai is
putting a dozen 'manthrams' on the GUNDU nadigar.. Avar kaadhal-ai
'thedin(en)'aar.. 'vandhadhu'...

***"Dhyaana-ththukku kovam".. Simran, whose name means "Dhyaanam" is
currently thrilled as she stars in four big budget tamil films, including
the Vijay/Sivaji Ganeshan film "Once More," PrabhuD/Abbas film "V.I.P,"
Vijay/Surya film "Nerukku Nerr," and Abbas film "Poochchu-davaa".. Ippadi
successful-aai poyi kondirukkum career-il, "politics pidichcha" Kajol
enters to cause havoc.. According to Kajol, among the Northie actresses
who act in Southie films, avarukkum, Manisha-vukkum dhaan market
adhigamaam.. "Dhyaanam" was rather shocked and angry to hear it.. She
says, Kajol has starred in only one film.. Paarkkalaam evalavu naal ingay
kuppai kottraar-nu.. endru challenge pannugiraar Simran!..

A more dhool killappum rumour mullaiththu-fies from the Sushmitha Sen,
Aishwarya Rai and Manisha Koirala jagadaa camp.. (Southie Actresses yeno
ippadi shandai poduvadhillai?!).. Several Mumbai magazines had reported a
long standing 'thagaraaru' between the three and Manisha Aishwarya-vai
thaaki pesiyadhaaga vathanthi.. It seems that Mani had kurai koori
pesi-fied Ice.. In turn, Ice said that she had not heard of any such
statement by Manisha.. and if Mani had said anything, Ice said, "Manisha
meedhu paridhaaba padukiren".. "'Bombay'-il irukkum 'Iruvar'-ukku idaiye
'pagai'.. "Rakshaki" yenn badhil pesavillaiyo?!..

***Pazhaiya 'jollu' news-ai poll rusikkummaa?.. Though a comparitively
old rumour, the Nagarjuna-Tabu love matter never ceases to create
interest.. According to Tabu, Nagarjuna spent lots of time with her
playing cards.. and Amala walked in to remind him that his health was
important and that he had shooting the next day!.. Ivalavu dhaan
nadandha-dhaam!.. But that doesn't matter.. The magazines had a field
time writing otherwise.. saying Amala had a fit seeing Tabu and Nag
together.. etc.. etc.!.. Nejamaagave Nag Tabu-vai paarththu "Unnaiye
Kalyaanam Pannikkaren"-nu sollirupaaro?!..

***"Adimai Sangili!".. Talk about a bad case of anger and disagreement..
and R.K. Selvamani and Rambha's shandai is an example of just that!..
Just so happens that the "Ullaththai Allithaa" naayagi was not thrilled
about the "Adimai Sangili" treatment she got in the film with the same
title.. Even after giving proper call sheets, Rambha refused to show up
on several dates.. RKS's explanation: "Ennadhu padangalil kadhaa-naayagar-
galukke mukkiyaththuvam kodukkiren.. Kadhaa-nayagi-galai pattri peridhaaga
yedhuththu kollvadhillai. Rambha-vai pattri naan yendha karuththum koora
virumbavillai"..

***Kamalahassan-in "Indhiyan Thaththa" vedaththukku Charu Haasan vote-u
pottaara?.. Obviously, the question on everybody's mind, considering both
Charu Haasan and G.Venkateswaran were the only two tamils on the selecting
committee.. Charu Hassan had nicely avoided being on this committee
citing either himself as a contender or a family member as one for many
years.. Soon, he realized that Kamal would continue to provide good
movies.. and he might lose his chance to be on the National Award
selecting committee, if he kept citing Kamal as a reason.. Setting his
personal interests aside, Charu Hassan "(Thanakku) vote-yeduppil kalandhu
kolla manasaatchi idam tharavillai yendru koori odhungi kondar." Of the
fourteen people present, only thirteen voted.. and GV was one of them..
Adhaavadhu.. verum vaayi-kku aval mella kidaiththu vittadhu!..

***Vandhaar.. Koduththaar.. Marandhaar.. Ponaar.. Rajinikanth had held a
special function in Ragavendra Kalyana Mandapam for all those who
participated in the making of "Arunaachalam".. He presented everyone with
a "irandu poun" chain.. Rajini called the director, cinematographer,
producers-in-charge and presented them with the chain.. Then, he said he
had some important errand to take care of and left immediately.. What
ever happenned to giving dialogue writer Crazy Mohan a chain?.. Hmmm..
AV-kaarargal vambhai killappi vittu vittaargal!.. Did he already give him
the chain before? or was he planning to give Crazy special recognition
some other time?.. Poruthth-irundhu paarppom!..

***Vani evalavu maraiththaalum.. UNMAI POI aagumaa?.. Actress Saritha who
has remained a dubbing artist for quite a while and been out of movies
for even longer, has begun to suspect that her husband Mukesh is indeed
having an affair!.. Mukesh, who ventured into tamil films once with his
performance in K. Balachandar's "Jaadhi Malli," seems to be involved with
"My India" Vani Vishwanath!.. Just another 'yerkanave kalyanam-aanavar-ai
kalyanam seidhu kolla pogum heroine' example yendru kandu-kaama irundhaalum
"Achchamillai Achchamillai" yendru manaivi visva roobam yeduththaal yenna
aavadhu?!..

***Sruthi and Oorvasi's 'Kalyaana' Vathanthigal.. Sruthi has been trapped
in a latest kisu kisu which links her with Kannada director Mahendra.. As
always, Sruthi maruppu theriviththu vittaar!.. Oorvasi, on the other
hand, maruppu yedhum sollaaamal, is acting busily to finish up enough
films and collect enough money to tie the knot with her Malayaalee actor/
boyfriend Mukesh soon!.. Usual style-il kaadhal-odu nikkaamal, kalyaana-mum
panni kolla pogiraar!.. On a side note, Actresses Ramya Krishnan and
Sukanya are also in the "kalyaana" news section.. Some sources say that
Ramya will soon tie the knot with up and coming telegu director Krishna Vamsi..
While Sukanya veettil mummaram-aaga jaadhagam ellam paarkka arambiththu
vittaargal!.. Plenty of dum dums on the way!..

***Inimel Sundhar "Murai Maman" illaiyo?.. This appears to be everybody's
mind today!.. Kushboo, who was thrilled with the possibility that she and
Sundhar C. would tie the knot sometime early next year.. comes alone to
social functions nowadays!.. Even though, the press has yet to venture
into 'why' Sun and Kush don't hang out together.. it's high time we all
heard about what's really going on!.. Break-up yedhaavadhu aagi
vittadhaa, yenna?!..

***Meet Febi Mani.. The woman who gave special meaning to Kajol's mookku
in "Minsaara Kanavu".. Incidentally, her ubbina kannam and face was so
impressive that Directors Bharathan and Fazil had offered her roles in
their films.. But Febi, who is primarily interested only in singing
rejected the offers.. Born in a lower middle class family and having her
violinist father die when she was just nine, Febi learned responsibility
rather fast.. She began singing chorus under music director Maragadhamani
and went on to sing "Eera Kaatru Adichcha-dhaale" in "Sundhara Purushan"
under Sirpi's music direction.. After which she was flooded with films,
including "Kalki," "Bharathi Kannamma," "MK," and others.. Like many of
the current singers, Febi's biggest kurai to date is that she has yet to
sing under Isaignani Ilaiyaraja's music..

***The voice that dazzled us with "Netru Illaadha Maattrum" from "Pudhiya
Mugam," "Thillana Thillana" from "Muthu," and more recently, "Poo Pookkum
Osai" in "Minsaara Kanavu" has won the Kerala State Award for its work in
"Azhagiya Raavanan" in Malayalam under Vidyasagar's music.. The voice
belongs to none other than singer Sujatha.. She began her career at age
10 singing in Yesudas' troupe and has gone on to become a cine playback
singer.. Her husband, Dr. Krishna Mohan has remained the irumbu thoon in
support of her singing career.. Sujatha's biggest varuththam to date (though
she does not wish to acknowledge it openly).. is not having won any awards
for tamil film music except for her work in "Pudhiya Mugam.." She
pacifies herself by saying that "rasigargal en paatte rasichchu kettaale
podhum.. I am happy!".. Aanalum award vaanguvadhu polla varumaa?

Indraiya nilai-kku there is one man who you cannot asachchu-fy when
it comes to composing music for tamil films.. Whether his music is good
or not, producers and directors viraindhu vandhu ivarai padangal-ukku sign
seigiraargal.. That man is none other than Deva.. Just see for yourself..

This just seems to be the beginning for Deva, at least for this year..
There is yet another six months to go.. Surely, this list will grow
longer.. Thank Kadavul that Deva doesn't compose for dubbed flicks!..

Yet, one should not forget that Deva's climb to the top took almost 14
years.. With a 460 Rupee salary in 1976 in the T.V.station, Deva had
always wanted to become the biggest music director that hit the planet!..
After getting fooled several times.. including one incident where: Deva
had composed two songs for the film, "Paadum Paravaigal".. After the
session, he had to pay the orchestra and started to search for the
producer of the film!.. Aall kaanamal poyi vittaar!.. Paavam Deva's
brothers who were really young at the time.. Oh-vena azhudhu vittargal!..
Without a single penny in his pocket, Deva walked all the way from
Kodambakkam to his home in Mylapore..

Soon afterwards, Deva entered the bhakthi padal industry and credits the
numerous Christian, Muslim and Hindu religious songs he sang in his
career: for God listened to him and created this great position in life
for him now!.. Kadavul bhakthi-yum bhakthi paadalgalum kai vidavillai!..

***Speaking of Deva.. one cannot forget to mention Sabesh.. Deva's
younger brother who has made quite a name for himself after singing
"Aandaalu Aandaalu, Ainaavaram Gopalu, I.C.F.-la yedukkaaran-da
thadaalu" in "Kaalamellam Kaadhal Vaazhga".. Deva has given Sabesh two
more chances to sing in "Rettai Jadai Vayasu" and "Sandhosam".. Ada yenna
periya brother dhaane-nu ninaichchu-da koodadhu.. Considering Deva
consults every producer and asks for their permission before letting
anybody sing.. including his brothers..

***Ilamai thullum 7 music directors have made their entry this year..
Some of their fates have been decided.. while some others rombave
paridhaaba-pada vendiya nilamai dhaan..

***Yuvan Shankar Raja.. who actually began singing under his father's
direction in "Anjali".. and has continued in his footsteps to eventually
compose music for T.Siva's "Aravindhan." Yuvan became a keyboard player
first under his elder brother's Karthik Raja's music direction for
"Alexandar".. Now, it's koorai-yai pichchindhu kottara time.. as
R.K.Selvamani signed him for "Indian Express," Panchu Arunaachalam for
"Romance," and Gangai Amaran for "Wanted." Yet, Yuvan's greatest desire
to date remains: Wanting to compose for Director Shankar's movie and work
with Lyricist Vairamuthu!..

***Meet Udhaya.. a new music director composing for the film, "Maargazhi
Poove".. Udhaya went to Srilanka where the film is being picturized to
get a sense of the kaatchi amaippu and appropriate music composition.
But in the end, he also brought back a Srilankan singer named Nirosha to
sing for the film.. Udhaya's big wish yet to be fulfilled is to atleast
shake Isaignani Ilaiyaraja's hand once!.. He even had the opportunity
once.. but fear and extreme respect for Raja stopped him!.. Interestingly,
Udhaya's first film "Maanagara Kaadhal" was never released!. Better luck
this time around!..

***Shah.. Aka Babu Shankar M.B.A. has transformed to become Shah, the
music director for Vijaykanth's 125th film "Ulavuththurai".. Shah is
currently one of the Rajas of the advertising jingles industry.. Like
Rahman, he has made a name for himself through his ad jingles for AIDS
ads, Shakthi masala and Premier Number One!.. Hopefully, Ibrahim Rauthar
padam kai vidaadhu!..

***Siva.. Rakneesh Omar was his name when he first released his pop album
titled "Kalakkal".. Of course, R.B.Choudhri thought his name was a bit
too kashtam for the tamil audiences to pronounce.. There he became Siva..
Soon after RBC signed Siva and received the master copy of the songs
composed for the film "Jaali".. RBC immediately signed him again for his
production "Love Today".. But unfortunately for Siva, the critics have
been very harsh of his work.. They criticized it for being rather loud for a
menmaiyaana film like LT!.. Siva's fate lies with Jaali!.. Hopefully "Jaali"..
Siva-vukku Jolly-aaga irukkum!.. Interestingly, Siva's father, Ragavaiyya
plays tabla for Ilaiyaraja's films..

***More "Achchu Vellams" for Anand.. Bharathiraja's "Siragugal
Murivadhillai" is technically Anand's second film.. considering "Sakthi"
failed to0 make an adequate impression on the box office or on the people.
Indeed, Anand is on the map with BR's film and hopes to make it big from
here on out!.. Anand studied Engineering, in Rourke, Uttar Pradesh, where
the applause he received for his music, laid the foundation for him to
enter the tamil film music field.. He is the composer for the background
music for "Neengal Paarththu Kondirupadhu Sun T.V.-yin Thamizh Maalai"..

***Indeed the Music Director to watch for today is Swararaj.. His debut
"Murai Mappillai" was rather harshly shoo-ed away by the press.. but he
isn't backing out without a fight!.. While currently composing for
K.S.Adhiyaman's film "Swarnamukhi" (now a thodar kadhai in Anandha
Vikatan), Swararaj is also composing for a Hollywood film titled "Quality
Time".. QT's re-recording was supposed to take place in California, but
for Swararaj's sake, this will take place in Madras.. Swararaj, who has
released over 6-7 CD albums, says that his mother Rajeswari's veenai
music was the foundation for his interest in music.. Swararaj's wife
Janani is also a popular playback singer in Malaysia!..

***Besides these new music directors, A.K.Vasagan composes for the
Mansoor Alikhan film "Vettu Onnu Thundu Rendu," and Oviyan composes for
the Murali starrer "Dhinam-Dhorum" and Thyagu composes for "Singaara
Kottai"..
