Most of this post is rubbish and doesn't deserve any response. But I
want to respond only to a few "gems" in the post.

You have got your math. right, because the numbers total to 100! Great!!
But only a small mistake buddy, you left out Telugu !! Still you got
100 !!!
I will not try to correct you for the ridiculously wrong figures you
have shown.

There is no big Kannada film industry at all in the state. But, again
you have made the same mistake! No Telugu movies in B'lore !!??
Telugu film industry is now next only to Bollywood.

You guys own most of JP Nagar?? Since when? Come on, I live there!
If you want to make a point name an area like Shivajinagar, not
JP Nagar.

Don't talk about things you don't know. At least in 10 districts of
the state such as Shimoga, Darwad, Chikmagalur, Hassan etc. *ONLY*
Kannada is spoken/used, *NOTHING* else. (I have not included south
and north Kanara districts as examples because Tulu and Konkani
are also spoken ALONG WITH - not in stead of - Kannada.
Hey! forget about all that, did you know that 70% of the US
speaks Tamil? When do you guys plan to start ruling the US?
I know it's a piece of cake for you guys because if you can make
my home district of Shimoga a part of Kerala, linguistically, then
doing the same thing for the US is not more difficult.

First time I've ever heard about the Urdu hybrid stuff. Can you
elaborate ?

n> BTW, did any of you study in Kanarese medium?

I did. And I know a lot of people who speak Tamizh (how do you
pronounce that ?) who can't read/write the language they can barely
speak. And talking about dialects, heck! I can't even remember how
many exist.

On a more humorous note, my brother-in-law was born and brought up in
Tamilnadu. My sister was born and brought up in Karnataka. They live
in (ahem!) Bangalore now and often have the KannaDA Vs Tamil fights.

My b-i-l brags about Tamil superiority and the kind of technology they
must've had in the ancient times to be able to make boats that could
reach Java/Sumatra while KannaDigas were walking around in loin cloth,
eating Ragi MuddE.

My sister does fight vociferously and sometimes calls up my Mom for
more points she could fight these Tamizh bigots with. And believe me,
they do have a really interesting time :)

Hi,

Take it easy. It is a fact you have to accept. The following are absolute facts:

1. Population in Bangalore Kanarese 18%
Tamilians 60%
Mallus 12%
Gujjus/Northies 10%.

2. Cinemas - More than 50% of talkies show Tamil Cinema. Rest show Hindi or Engls
ish. Hardly 20 talkies show Kanarese cinema. That is very much in order of their population in Bangalore.

3. We own most of the Bangalore such as Ulsoor, JP Nagar and Mallus own Indiranangar, HAL side.

4. Tamil is the un-official Official language; most widely spoken in Bangalore and understood.

5. All software companies in Bangalore are full of our people.

6. When we decide to retire or purchase property anywhere in India, our first choice is Bangalore because it belongs to us.

7. All Public Sector and Private sector is dominated by us.

8. State Bank of Mysore though by name it belongs to You, Kanarese, is completely managed by us.

9. All Railway stations in so called Karnataka employ us. Try speaking in Kanarese in any of the railway stations in Karnataka. I challenge you.

10.In reality there is nothing called Karnataka. It is a myth.

Actually Karnataka should be divided and given to other states in the following manner:

Mangalore, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Hassan, Coorg - to Kerala.

Mysore, Bangalore, Tumkur, Mandya - to Tamilnadu.

Belgaum, North Kanara, North Karnataka - to Maharashtra.

Kolar, Gulbarga, Bellary - to AP.

So where is your Karnataka, Ms. Vasanthi? Arun and Vinay?

Come on, be sportive.

The following is the reply from one great "Kanarese" who
removed it before others saw it.

So, Mr. Ravi - which language you are planning as a replacement
for your Kanarese? I think Tamil should be the most apt.
Anyhow Kanaarese is a strange hybrid stew of all other
languages. Take some words from Tamil, some from Mallu, some
from Urdu, some from Hindi and Sanskrit, some from Marathi,
Telugu, Konkani, Tulu, Coorgi languages and ahoy your Kanarese
came out.

Is Kanarese a language at all? In North Karnataka it is
Urdu hybrid. In Udupi, Mangalore - it is Tulu. Coorg - Coorgi
language.

BTW, did any of you study in Kanarese medium?

One more interesting statistics for you - Your fellow Kanarese
constitute only 40 -50% of your homeland - Karnataka.

The day is not far when you come begging us to rule you as our
colony. Already we are ruling you in all speheres except
in Assembly.

Slimy bait from some low life who does not even want
to sign his name. But I still feel there is something
implicit in these cheap shots. Is this generated by
the fact that we dont have the billigerence to fight this?
Is the Jingismo a requisit for a language's sustenence?

One aspect of this discussion I would like to initiate is
how do we sustain a language, culturally rich, yet
useless to science and technology in a populace
increasingly technical and cultureless?

The second aspect is, should we even do it? Is
it worth anyone's while to help keep afloat
a language, we can almost do without?

Please, do not get emotional. This would be a hard
topic for any Kannadiga and I am as Kannadiga as
we get.

Mr. rnna...@rocketmail.com:

Don't you have anything better to do? If you don't like to
discuss topic related to Kannada/Karnataka you are welcome to be a true
non-kannadiga and post in scit. You are a fanatic, a rabbel rouser
that's what you are! Why don't you go do something useful?

You know before fanatics like you came along (and I mean on both sides)
scik was a good place. Just the fact that this ng was named for
people from Karnataka should tell you how tolerant this place was.
Please don't misuse the goodwill and the accomodating spirit of
people from karnataka. Some of the facts you posted are all half truths.

If I were you, I would ask myself the following questions:

1. Whats my intent here?

2. Why do I achieve by this?

People like you by being fanatic encourage or give reason for fanatics
opposed to you. Unfortunately, bystanders will get hurt. Just check with
your conscience.

scik'ers, please ignore this guys or his ilk. Let's not react to stupidity
and treat them as representatives of the whole bunch. Remember in Karnataka
and also the whole of India we have people who originally speak Tamil but
would be would distance themselves from such fanatics.

I agree with you on all counts but it is really hard not to reply.
I wrote a real long reply but discarded it after thinking it was'nt worth
the effort. Just to let Mr Rocketmail know, Tamil would have been the
national language (in a way) if there had been no Aryan invation thousands
of years ago. This is of course according to one school of thought. There
still are people in pakisthan who speak a Tamil related language. So why
don't you go there and claim it for your beloved TN? Just joking all you
other tamilians :) I myself speak Urdu, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and
understand Bengali, Gujrathi, Punjabi, and some Malyalam. But I was born a
Kannadiga and it is my mother tongue so am lost? So WHAT AM I???
Well I guess this is enough, and to all you Kannadigas who haven't
reacted to this stupid mail of the rocketman good work. It really takes a
lot of effort not to reply to such mail and I'm sorry that I am so weak.
