***Pooja Kumar.. A rather quiet appearance by Pooja Kumar who stars with
Vishnu (Actress Sheela's son) in Director K.R.'s "Kaadhal Rojave"..
Pooja's first scene was a mudhal iravu scene where she spoke no
dialogues.. But the second day, dialogue pesa arambikka sonna podhu
rombave thaviththu vittaar!.. Pooja also stars with Karthik in "Chinna
Raja".. Currently, she is engulfed in amazement at all those who run to
her to get her autograph!.. Vihappil.. she says, "Naam yenna avalavu
periya aallaa?!..

***Anjala.. Finishing up some Hindi film that she was acting in, Anjala
got her first azhaippu to star with Ajeethkumar in "Pagaivan"..
Ajeeth-oda sign pannara vishayam therindha-dhum, every producer/director
in the Mumbai pattallam got on the bandwagon and signed her with every
"Khan" currently acting in the Hindi industry.. Adhanaaleye, Anjala-vukku
thalai-kku yeri vittadhu!.. Now, she refuses to come in swim suits,
kuttai paavaadai etc.. But all in all, solli kuduththaa maadhiri nandraagave
nadikkiraar-aam!..

***Amulya.. Rambha's Chiththi penn makes her entry starring with Karthik
in some untitled film.. It appears that Karthik has all the luck when it
comes to sisters of heroines.. Mudhalil Nagma, avar sister Roshini,
appuram Rambha, ippo Amulya-vaa?!..

***Simran.. Not much has to be said about this "Tere Mere Sapne" debut
heroine who entered Kodambakkam with quite a bang this year!.. Of the
four films that Simran has signed, three films, "V.I.P," "Once More," and
"Nerukku Nerr" involve big names, big producers and directors..
Summaa-vaa sollanum.. Amma-vukku thalai-kku yeraamal irundhaal seri!..

***Keerthi Reddy.. Yet another lucky leading lady this year.. She has
bagged two films that might have the industry cashing in for a long time,
if they impress audiences as expected!.. Keerthi stars as Nasar's
"Devathai," and in "Nandhini" with Suhasini, S.P.Balasubramaniam, Vineeth
and others.. Direction: Manobala..

***"Aahaa" Sulekha.. Not much is made of Sulekha's debut in Suresh
Krishna's "Aahaa," since she makes her debut with another newcomer Rajeev
Krishna.. Of course, Bhanupriya might have also stolen Sulekha's
limelight by doing a special role in the film!..

***Divya.. Born in Nagpur, Divya was raised in Mumbai.. She developed her
aspirations to be an actress at a very young age and did her first film
"Loha" which was very well received by Hindi audiences.. After completing
eight other Hindi films, Divya enters tamil films with her debut in
"Kaadhali" with Vignesh and Devayani. Directed by newcomer Chiththu..
Beware there is another DIVYA starring in "Koottaali".. She isn't the
same one as the "Kaadhali" actress.. Rendu Surya irundhaal, rendu
Divya-vum thamizh industry-il irukkiraargal!.. Kuzhappam time!..

***Rashika.. Hard to believe but poor Rashika was supposed to make her
debut in "Poonjolai" in September 1996 or even earlier.. Andha padam
thalli poyi.. thalli poyi, she finally lost hope and signed to act in
"Bhagvath Singh" alongside Napolean and Sangavi.. That film is still in
progress. She went on to sign R.V.Udhayakumar's "Chinna Ramaswami Periya
Ramaswami".. Andha padaththukku yenna aacho?!.. Then, she is finally
acting with Pandiyarajan in "Kabadi Kabadi".. It is indeed in some hope
that one of her films will finally show up in the theaters, that she is
still acting!.. Lots of good luck to her!..

***Sushmita Sen.. Yenna dhaan Miss Universe-aa irundhaalum, Thamizh
cinema-vukku ivar pudhu-sillai yendru solla mudiyaadhe!.. After a lot of
hype and fight with Aishwarya Rai, oru vazhiyaaga.. Sush Sen's first film
is "Rakshakan" produced K.T.Kunjumon and directed by Praveen Gandhi..
Nagarjuna, S.P.Balasubramaniam and Raghuvaran join the cast as A.R.Rahman
composes music..

***Neena.. Director Agathiyan, who is on a very fast pace ever since his
low budget "Gokulaththil Seethai" made in a matter of 2 to 2 1/2 months
claimed box office success last year.. His new offerring "Vidukadhai"
produced by K.Balachandar is at the same pace and is set for release in
June.. This film stars a new heroine named Neena.. Strange that nobody
has bothered to interview Neena yet.. but the film's pace hasn't provided
time for all that!..

***Nivedhitha.. Arjun's latest find for his own film "Thaayin Manikodi"..
Nive was once a Bangalore model and now turned actress.. Information is
rather skethcy about her, especially since she hasn't signed a mountain
of films since her arrival..

***Some one-liners about the pudhu muga heroes that will invade the tamil
industry this year.. Vishnu, (Actress Sheela's son makes his debut in
K.R.'s "Kaadhal Rojave") was once a roommate in boarding school of Music
Director Karthik Raja, Actor Surya (son of Actor Sivakumar, and debuts in
Maniratnam's production "Nerukku Nerr"), and Actor Venkat Prabhu (son of
Music and Film Director Gangai Amaran).. Interestingly all four roommates
made it into the film industry.. Ram, who danced in "Vellarikka Pinju
Vellarikka" in "Kaadhal Kottai" makes his hero debut in "Veerapaandi
Kottaiyile".. "Aahaa".. Director Suresh Krishna's latest offering makes
space for a new hero Rajeev Krishna.. While Venkat Prabhu who was
supposed to debut under his father's direction in "Poonjolai" (Only
kadavul knows what has happenned to that film!) has begun his second
project "Wanted" with newcomer S.P.Charan (Singer S.P.Balasubramaniam's
son) under the direction of VP's brother Premji..

***"Arunaachalam" Ilaiyaraja-vai paarkka sendru vittaar!.. Just so happens
that when it comes to Rajini, it has always been a guessing game as to who
will get to direct, co-star and compose music for his next film.. This
time around there are plenty of guesses including: Rajini is planning to
sign two films.. One directed by Maniratnam and the other by Suresh
Krishna.. Both will supposedly have music by A.R.Rahman (Appo Mani-ARR
jagadaa yenna aachchu?!).. Yet there another contradictory news that
states that Ilaiyaraja will compose for the next Rajini film..
Nichchyama, Mani-Raja koottani-kku ippo romba possibility kuraichchal..
appadi-na Raja-Su.Krishna-Rajini koottani dhaano?..

***Well, there's a lot more when it comes to guessing about Rajini
films.. Rumours fly that once he returns from his around-the-world trip,
he will act in a film produced by G.Venkateswaran(Maniratnam director)
and then proceed to act under the "Annamalai Cine Arts" banner(probably
the Suresh Krishna deal).. In the midst of this, people also look for him
to act in a Hindi film.. "Andha Aandavan Sollaran.. indha Rajini Rasigar
guess pannaran".. what else can you say?..

***Lyricist Kalidasan, who spent his time whole-heartedly writing 108
Amman names for the Kushboo paattu in "Purusha Latchanam".. Then
proceeded to write 108 Curry names for Karthik to sing in "Pistha"..
Ippodhu, busy-aai 108 Cinema Heroine peyir-galai yedho oru padathth-ukku
serious-aai yezhudhi kondirukkiraar!.. Meanwhile, the naad-arindha asthaa-
vadhaani besides T.R... K.Bhagyaraj is seriously contemplating whether he
should continue acting in films.. "Vettiya Madichchu Kattu"-oda TATA
solla oru idea!.. He wishes to introduce a lot of new faces to the
industry in his films instead!..

***After encountering substantial problems with the Devar community over
their portrayal in "Bharathi Kannamma," Producer Henry is now getting
into more trouble by naming Mammoty's character in "Marumalarchchi"
as Rasu Padaiyachi.. According to Henry, there would not be any
protest for Mammoty's character since he lives as a good man all
through the movie.. Konjam over excited-aaga irundha Henry went
off the deep end, as he recited: "Indha Rasu Padaiyachi udhavi
kettu varubavar-galukku Karnan.. Yedhirkiravar-galukku Maaveeran..
Sandharpa-vaadhigalukkum Jaalra pervazhi-galukkum Chaanakyan..".. Aahaa
Oho-yena ivar pesu-vadharkku munnaal.. "Marumalarchchi" stars Mammoty,
Devayani, Mansoor Alikhan, Ranjeeth, Senthil, R.Sundararajan, Manorama,
Vivek star.. S.A.Rajkumar composes music, as newcomer Bharathi directs
the film.. The film is developing fast towards a scheduled August 15th
release date!..

***The Kutti Meenas, Anjus and Shalinis of tommorow shall act with Rajini
today yendru iruppadhu poll.. The heroines of yesterday shall become the
'mothers' of tommorow yendr-aagi vittadhu.. Indha varisai-yil maatiya-vargal

***Ambika.. After two children, peruththu vittar yendru shaakku solli
cinema set her aside.. but now Ambika has become a hot commodity, especially
when it comes to playing middle-aged women and mothers.. She currently
stars in "Periya Manushan" and in a kannada film as Sivaraj Kumar's mother..
Of course, Ambika's biggest thrill was acting in one scene as giving
birth to kutti Rajini in "Arunaachalam".. Oru scene-il nadiththa-dharke
ivalavu galaatta-vaa?..

***Latha.. She set aside her aspirations to act for the sake of her two
young children when she still had ilamai.. Now that her two children are
in school, Latha grabbed the opportunity that Rajkiran offered her: to
act as Kushboo's mother in "Ponn Vilaiyira Bhoomi".. She feels like a
totally different person acting now.. since obviously a mother role is
never like that of a heroine..

***Kavitha.. Also another 'thaai' in real life who decided to moottai
kattu-fy acting to raise her children.. Now both her children are in
school, Kavitha has been slam-banging the 'mother' industry side of tamil
cinema.. Mostly, you can see her act as the heroine's mother than the
hero's mom!.. She also stars as Simran's mom in "Poochchuda-vaa"..

***Jayachitra.. The woman who tried very hard to avoid the "Kaakinada
Kanchana" role in "Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal" that K.Balachandar had
offered her.. Unable to resist, she first gave in to do mother roles in
PPA.. Now, she finished completing Rambha's mommy role in "Raasi".. and
continues with Devayani's mom role in "Kaadhali"..

***Anuradha.. Probably the only one with a rather sad story to tell..
Soon after she tied the knot with her husband Satish, both started to
teach dance and worked together.. After two children were born and Satish
was hurt badly in car accident, Anuradha is faced with taking care of
three people in the family.. With so much sogam within her own life, Anu
refuses to do more soga roles.. She prefers light-hearted roles like the
one she is doing in "Thedinen Vandhadhu" as Venniraadai Moorthy's wife
and Manthra's mom!.. Sadly, she has turned to movies to laugh all her
pains off!.. Best of Luck to her!..

***Sathyapriya.. who lost her husband two years ago is also tremendously
busy in the 'amma' industry, especially since her two children depend on
it!.. She stars as mommy for Devayani in "Suryavamsam," for Vineeth in
"Devadhai," and as a blind mommy for Murali in "Roja Malare."

***Suhasini.. Wierd but true.. that Suhasini stars as Keerthi Reddy's mom
in "Nandhini".. Even though Suha claims she has only enough time to help
out Mani with his production/film making details.. she could not
thattu-fy Director Manobala's offer.. But of course, one has to admit
that Suha is still a bit too too young to play Keerthi's mom!.. But
Manobala's word was vedha vaakku in this case!..

One thing is for sure, Mommy role-il market out-aaga chance kidaiyaadhu!..

***Someone in the film industry has finally ventured to name their film
"Anandham".. and it appears that dhairiya shaali is none other than
Director Seeman.. Karan who starred as I.C.Mohan in "Gokulaththil
Seethai" will get his chance to become a hero in "Color Kanavugal" with
Kushboo playing his pair.. Interestingly, Karan is supposed to be a Hindi
kaaran trying to win the heart of Hindi theriyaadha Kush!.. But it's
working the other way around as Kush teaches Karan Hindi on the sets of
the film, so that he could atleast do a decent job in the film!..
Anuradha Nag, the very impressive Mother Superior in "Minsaara Kanavu" is
none other than the Late Shankar Nag's wife!.. She indeed became Rajeev
Menon's blessing in disguise as many believe, "not even a real sister
could have done such a great job!".. Anuradha's way to beat the
depression of losing her husband was to enter movies!..

***As everyone goes 'ga ga' over the fact tamil cinema won a total
of 10 national awards this year.. Director Agathiyan is more thrilled
that he was the very first Tamil director in the history of Nat'l Awards to win
a best director award for his work in "Kaadhal Kottai." What could
possibly be a bigger pride for him than to direct K.Balachandar's
production "Vidukadhai," expected for release soon!.. Shahul Hameed, who
passed away earlier this year sang his final song in "Vettu Onnu Thundu
Rendu" under music director A.K.Vasagan.. Yet, many await the "Jeans"
album by A.R.Rahman where Shahul Hameed has sung one of his last songs!..

***Director Balu, initially popular for his fight with Sivasakthi Pandian
and Director Agathiyan for stealing his story for "Kaadhal Kottai"..
became even more popular.. more favorably after the release of his
directorial debut film, "Kaalamellaam Kaadhal Vaazhga".. Now, he directs
Producer Ramanathan's(Sathyaraj's dosth) new film titled "New Year"..
Ramanathan and Balu are currently seeking a hero and heroine who are
nationally popular to star in the film.. Kajol peyir adi padukiradhu!
Directors Robert and Rajasekaran are getting back together to make a film
after a long hiatus!.. Dialogue writer Prasanna Kumar who writes
dialogues for Director K.R.'s films, will pen the dialogues for this new
venture!..

***Like Sangavi, Roja and others, Manthra has made 'kavarchi' a
tradition.. Lucky for her, many of the northies in the industry feel the
same way.. Despite tough competition from the Simrans of the North,
Manthra has quite a few films to her credit currently, including
"Thedinen Vandhadhu" with Prabhu, Direction: Ravi Verma.. "Rettai Jadai
Vayasu" with Ajeethkumar.. Direction by Sivakumar("Aayudha Poojai"),
"Pudhu Kuduththanam" with Vignesh.. Direction: R.Raguvasan.. "Porkkaalam"
with Murali.. Direction by Cheran ("Bharathi Kannamma").. Nalla yogam
dhaan!..Life isn't as much pleasure for Maheshwari (Sridevi's Chiththi
Penn).. Unfortunately, the critics have been extremely harsh about Mahi's
looks in her last couple of films, "Ullaasam" and "Nesam".. Sridevi
sivaarisu mattum podhaadhu yendru nirumbanam aagi vittadhu!..

***Prakashraj-aai maara "aasai".. Every artist in tamil cinema today
wishes to achieve the same fame that Prakashraj has achieved in merely
three years since his debut in "Duet" in '94.. Today, he reigns supreme
probably beating the Ajeeths and Abbas' in signing films and acting in
them... He is busy shooting: "Vidukadhai" by director Agathiyan and
producer/guru K.Balachandar.. "Pirandha Naal" with Sangita, "Guru
Paarvai" with Kushboo, Directed by Manojkumar (who made many BONDI films
including "Vandicholai Chinraasu"), "Swarnamukhi" with Devayani..
directed by K.S.Adhiyaman ("Thotta Shinungi"), "Smile Please" under
newcomer Radha Mohan's direction with a new Mumbai heroine, "Nandhini"
with Suhasini, Vineeth ("Kaadhal Desam"), Keerthi Reddy. Direction by
Manobala.. "Paththini" with Jayaram and Kushboo under P.Vasu's
direction.. Prakashraj ippodhai-kku tamil industry-yil thani 'raj'yam
nadaththu-giraar!..

***Baby Shalini has become Ms. Shalini and has made a name for herself in
Malayalam.. Her debut film titled "Anniyaththira Piraavu" is running
successfully in Kerala and Shalini has become instantly popular.. Koodiya
seekiram, Shalini will enter tamil movies to make her mark!.. Director
Sundhar C. has rolled up his sleeves and started looking far ahead into
the future.. His current directorial venture "Janakiraman" will conclude
soon.. But the film he will begin after "JK" have many mouths open widely
in awe!.. An untitled film starring Ajeethkumar, Abbas, Ramba.. Produced
by A.M.Ratnam, who produced the mega successful "Indhiyan" in '96 is set
for shooting soon!.. Like "Indhiyan," this will again be a big budget
film, as search for the supporting actor/actresses currently continue!..

***Though Bhagyaraj has been wanting to quit acting, innum avarai aasai
vidavillai!.. After "Vettiya Madichchu Kattu" with Nagma has been
completed, K.B. is set to produce, direct and act in a hero role in
"Ragini Rohini Subramani".. Peyir-e vedikkai-yaa illai?!.. Preetha
Vijaykumar, another daughter of Actor Vijaykumar makes her debut in
"Rukkumani Kalyaanam" with Vineeth.. Her dad Vijaykumar and sister Baby
Sridevi co-star!.. Ravi Raja Binny Shetty directs the film, while two
other top actors are expected to play special roles in the film!..

***Karthik nejamaagave 'ullaththai alli' vittar.. Ever since the sucess
of "Ullaththai Allithaa" last year, Karthik has been branded as the
ultimate comedy hero, that too when he has Goundamani or Manivannan to
support him in the film.. After "Shishya," Karthik's latest "Pistha"
seems to be alli-ing the cash at the box office.. along with Manivannan
and a paambu named "Ramba".. Now, Karthik stars in three roles in Gokula-
Krishna's "Udhavikku Varalaama?" with Devayani, Anju Arvind and Indhu as
pairs and Goundar, ManiV co-starring.. One role as "Sundharam" and the
other as "Pandiyan" in "Sundarapandian".. Heera and another heroine star
along with Manivannan, Vadivelu and others.. Direction by R.Ragu.. He
also stars in "Koottaali" with Rajsri(who took over what was once Eeswari
Rao's role), and Divya(new).. under John Amritaraj's direction.. No
Goundar or ManiV here!.. Karthik's last film is "Chinna Raja" with Pooja
Kumar ("Kaadhal Rojave").. Appears to be a film by Chitra Ramu and Chitra
Lakshmanan..

***Director C.Ranganathan, who is most famous for his fight with M.S.V.Murali
over the production/success of "Tata Birla," is currently working on a
film titled "Ahaa Yenna Poruththam" with Ramki, Sangavi, Goundamani,
Senthil, R.Sundararajan and others.. Music is by Vidyasagar... The film
is produced by K.Balu of K.B.Films which produced films like "Chinna
Thambi," "Panchaalangkurichchi," "Senaadhibadhi" and is currently
producing Sundhar C.'s "Janakiraman".. Vijayalakshmi Movieland's "Amaidhi
Poonga"(this might be M.S.V.Gopi's production company) began shooting as
Suresh Gopi and Prabhu danced with hundreds of children in a song together:
"Nanba! Nanba! Aasai Nanba!.. Naan enbadhu neeye nanba!.. Nee enbadhu
neeye alla naan-ne nanba".. in Pollachi, which was picturized by Sanjeev
Shankar.. Heera, two top models from Mumbai, Raguvaran, Janakaraj, Thilakan,
Charlie, Vivek, Nizhalgal Ravi and Sarathbabu are expected to join the
cast!..

***Despite two big bombs in 1997 in "Gopura Deepam" and "Vivasaayi
Magan," 'Grama'rajan has not quit making films.. Interestingly, Ramarajan
is busy with three films right now, including "Thenmaangu Paattukkaran"
with Aamni("Pudhayal"), Goundamani and Senthil with Gangai Amaran
directing.. "Poo Maname Vaa".. Ramarajan's 40th film, and 11th film
directing.. with Sangita (if he continues this, appuram Parthi gadhi
dhaan!.. This is RamaR's third film with Sangita in just over a year!)..
Chandrasekar, Manorama, Manivannan, Periyar Dasan and others.. Music by
Sirpi.. "Annan" directed by Anu Mohan("Mettuppatti Miraasu"), Swathi,
R.Sundararajan, Ponnvannan, Manivannan, Vadivukarasi all star.. How is
it, padam bondi aanaalum RamaR has so many more films in hand?!..

***"Kanmani Oru Kavidhai" appears to be the next Bharathan movie to be
dubbed in tamil!.. It stars Sakshi ("Pudhayal") and Vineeth ("May
Maadham"), a doctor and an engineer respectively, who happen to bump into
each other during a 'suttrula payanam'.. What begins as modhal,
eventually becomes natpu.. and leads further to them both realizing that
they are family relatives in some way!.. Appuram?!. Well.. velli
thirai-yil kaanga, etc. etc.. Nasar, Babu Mohan, Kavitha, Santhi Krishna
co-star, as Ilaiyaraja composes music..

***Some good and bad news for Rajini fans.. First, the bad!.. The latest

not-so-agreeable music in "Arunaachalam") is Vadivukkarasi.. She played
the rather evil paatti of the household, where in one scene, she calls
Rajini an "anaadhai".. Rajini fans have pongi yezhundhu-fied against her for
saying that.. and have started to badger and threaten her: "Enga thalaivar-ai
nee eppadi 'anaadhai'-nu solla pochchu?".. Paavam Vadivu.. What could she
do?.. Producers and Directors who cannot stand the badgering have tossed
her out of their films.. Vadivu, with tears in her eyes, cites one film,
"Marumalarchchi" where she lost her role to Manorama just for the same
reason.." Hopefully, when Rajini comes back to Chennai, he can put an end
to this, so that Poor Vadivukkarasi can get back to work!.. Sadly, it was
indeed Rajini who once said in an interview that this role was a turning
point for Vadivukkarasi, where she will become more popular and be acting
