I heard about a group originated from Taiwan called 'I Kuan
Tao'. Its members are required to swear to keep some
secrets.
One of my friend was invited to their 'temple' for a veg
meal and during that visit he was forced to follow other
member of the group in making the oath and joined. He was
very upset with the person that invited him there and
claimed that he remain silence when those people read their
oath.
Can anyone provide some info on this group and is this group
considered a cult in Taiwan ??

Thank You !!

No offence to members of the group but its the group's
shadow existence and swear to secrecy that worries me.

|There are many cult groups in Taiwan, many of them are religion based
|seeking mostly superstitious people. These groups come and go but
|many are set up for just racketeering purpose. If I remember
|correctly, the police had busted two of these cult groups over the
|past year and you will be suprised how much money these groups are
|raking in. Since there are so many of them it is really hard to keep
|track of a particular one, especially if they are small and in its
|infant stage.

I Guan Dao considered itself as a branch of of Taoism with a long
history from China. At least, it was busted in mainland in the early
fifties. So was in Taiwan. Now, due to the release of the strict band
of them, it is coming back.

Thanks for the intro to the group, last two questions from
me.
Can people that joint the group (unwillingly) later withdraw
from it without resistance from the group establishment?
What is the attraction or strength of the group? I heard
that it has a strong presence in Singapore as well.

As I know, I Kuan Tao, In old China called Red Light Group, developed into
today I Kuan Tao.
The I Kuan Tao is misture of Chinese Tao religion and Budhist religion,
but is different than Tao & Budhist.
The members are require to swear to keep the secretes, but I can told you
is no too many secrets to tell. The I Kuan Tao is good religion
organization, but all the religions, the I Kuan Tao have bad apples like
one you know.
I Kuan Tao organization is very different than Tao & Budhist, I know they
are separated into many groups, but I don't know well the structure of
organization.

The bigs diferrence between Tao and I Kuan Tao, the I Kuan Tao member's
are not free to understand other religions and practice ZEN, so keep the
secrets is one of tools to keep the member's.

I am not agains I Kuan Tao, I know I Kuan Tao well, I know member's of I
Kuan Tao, is good people's, but I never will be one of they, sorry I know
too much to be I Kuan Tao, secrets ???, is no secrets in I Kuan Tao.
