British Local Elections

The local government election held on May 4, 2006 in the UK saw
unprecedented number of Tamil candidates putting forward their names as
candidates. In addition to six candidates re-contesting, dozen of others
entered the fray with lots of enthusiasm. It is now confirmed eight of them
have been elected.
The elected candidates are: Miss Elizabeth Packiyadevi Mann
(Lib-Dem-Southwark Council), Paul Sathyanesan (Labour, Newham Council), Daya
Idaikadar (Labour-Harrow Council), Manoharan Dharmarajah (Labour-Harrow
Council), Mike Selva (Labour-Harrow Council) and Yogan Yoganathan (Lib-Dem,
Kingston Council) were the re-elected Councillors at the election. The newly
elected Councillors are Mrs Sasikala Suresh (Labour-Harrow) and Vidyaharan
Ram Mohan (Conservative- Croydon Council).
The Council elections in the London Borough of Harrow became the focal
point as LTTE front activist put forward their names with the view to decare
a mini-Eelam there and pass a Massachusetts type declaration for Tamil Eelam
in the Council if all candidates were elected. The candidates are said have
violated the election rules by advertising unachievable promises to the
Tamil voters in the Borough.
The diehard supporters of the LTTE Sockalingam Karunaligam (Manager of LTTE'
s Tamil Television Network) and Gopal Gopiratnam (editor LTTE front 'Oru
Paper' in London) were not successful in the election. However, Mrs Sasikala
Suresh who had actively involved in the LTTE's fund raising efforts after
the Tsunami has been elected.
Victory of Thaya Idaikadar and Mrs Sashikala Suresh received glaring
publicity in the LTTE's gutter press Nitharsanam.com based in Oslo.
Exclusive news published in the nitharsanam.com following Mrs Suresh's
victory she had said, 'It is my duty to work for Tamil nationalism' and
demanded that that 'state terrorism must end in the north and east of Sri
Lanka'. She had further said that during her term in office she will work
tirelessly to campaign for the Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka and will provide
all the help that is needed for our people there. Cllr. Suresh and Cllr Daya
Idaikadar are expected to come under scrutiny in the coming future for
giving false promises and if they exceed their authority as Councilors. The
Harrow Borough Council had changed hands to the Conservative Party at the
election.
Cllr Shasikala is expected receive red carpet and gun salute welcome that
Cllr Eliza Packiyadevi Mann had received when she is expected to visit the
LTTE controlled Vanni area.

week a Sinhala journalist who was neutral in his analysis.
At the end, reality on the ground matters.
Don't expect people ton take it all lying down while you and your stupid
governments set out to destroy the future of Sri Lanka come into our
places with tanks and fighter plans and destroy OUR towns.
You won't purposefully understyand what I'm saying here.
