I know, I need to find something Scot to post.
OMFG.
Okay, let's call in a Scot to comment on this article. Cory? The
conservatives feel this was a brilliant career move for Ms Palin. What say
you?
- nilita
Apart from me I didn't know there were any Scots on this NG. I thought
they were mostly Canadians.

Excuse me! As far as I know, Cory is an American but there are/were
lots of Scottish posters. Heid the baa richt enough!
So, Sim mac Liam, why join in the vulgarity? Conway spoke so highly of
you, as he has of F***.
- nilita, astounded, but not so maybe so anymore ...

As far as I know, anyone who:
- currently makes their principle residence in Scotland,
*OR*
- was born in Scotland, regardless of where they now live,
*OR* (and this is stretching things a bit, but just to cover it)
- has Scottish parents but for some reason was born in
some other location and has never gone to Scotland,
is _still_ a Scot. It's insulting to claim that
fecking Hardy is "more Scottish" than Cory
(assuming Cory was born in Scotland, as I
thought he had been), or me, or anyone else
who meets one of the above criteria, for that
matter. (And by the way, *that* eejit's posting

Maybe because, in a group where there _are_
Real Scots(tm), you solicited the opinion
of an American/Canadian instead of an actual
Scot.

Maybe, but your original thrust was to get
a Scot's opinion on Palin's career move...
and then you singled out a North American
poster, instead of a Scottish one, to pro-
vide said opinion.
Sim's post was only one line long and just
pointed out that you apparently don't know
who the Scots in the group are. The fact that
he posted as a followup to Fred doesn't make
him...or his comment...vulgar. He merely
made an observation.

I suspect a lot of people are simply tired...
the group's nastiness quotient has gone up
exponentially in recent months and frankly,
most people have better things to do than
read the self-aggrandising vitriol which is
emanating from the keyboard of a certain
poster who isn't nearly as amusing as he
seems to think he is.

I behooves me to wonder how many people in this forum (and in Usenet in
general) act In Real Life (TM) the same way as they do in Usenet.
- nilita, bearing in mind that there is more than one vitriolic poster in
this group, and I otherwise agree with your assessment WRT nastiness

A bit ambiguous, don't you think?
Perhaps you would expand on that statement.

But Nilita, are you forgetting the filth spewed out by the so called
Liberals among us (I'll mention no names)?.
Vulgarity is not, in my estimation, limited to Conservatives.
A quick review of pee pee's bilious postings should convince you of that.
Actually I don't recall her soliciting my opinion.
But then I'm noted for giving my opinion, whether it's wanted or not.

Oops.
I misread that.
Sorry, Deidre.
Deemed few, Nilita.
I agree with you. I also think you should ignore/kill file PP. And vice
versa.
- nilita
I'm sure they would be arrested.
- nilita
I once remarked to a particularly obnoxious poster (no one here)
that, in my experience, people who acted like he did in real life were
either extremely tough or got regular butt-kickings. He then went off
and accused me of threatening him.
Now we've got Fred replying to a killfile, to a killfile, to a killfile.

Should I ask which "Ian Parker" or would that best be left alone?
Yeah. Sometimes I can't discern the difference between [normal]
Scottish-style bantering/slagging and just plain meanness. At least once JJ
(Ian) has directed me to the FAQ that says something to the effect that
Scots are fighters [Usenet being no exception] :) :) :)

Well I'm pretty close in real life to how I am here. That's a

The difference is usually found among the arseholes. Most of us are
probably pretty close.....we might, at times, choose our words a bit
differently...it's easy to fire off a line or two without thinking. In

As time has gone on I have become increasingly disappointed that I didn't
make more effort to catch-up with some of the regulars at that time. I had a
lot happening workwise, Stirling seemed a long way from Aberdeen (nothing
like as far as Canada/America, I know) all the usual excuses. I think the
main excuse I gave myself though was that there would be another opportunity
soon. And of course there hasn't been.
Neb
Over the years I have had the opportunity to meet many people from
various listservs and Usenet groups, of all cultures, and have found
people to as expected and even nicer ... :)
Mind you, in my original comment, I was referring to those who act
like dickheads on Usenet. They are in the vast minority, but
unfortunately wreak the most havoc and have contributed to the demise
of Usenet.
- nilita
btw, I used to post photos of my meetings with people. However,
because of Usenet kooks and creeps I no longer do so. My next
adventure, should I accept the invitation, will be to visit a castle
in the US. If/when I do, photos will be posted on my Facebook to
which at least one member of this group is a subscriber ...;)
- nilita
Through the years I've had visitors to my place in Canada (those I've
met in internet discussion groups) from various places in the States
and Canada, from Holland, from Chile, and some other places ... I
forget ... it's been a long time since I've hosted any of these kinds
of events.
- nilita
Are you absolutely sure that it's an act?
The Quilt meet took a couple of years to organise - perhaps we should

In some cases, I'm sure it's not. In others, I think there are a
few who become more belligerent when they're not face-to-face.

Btw Neb, I was in an interesting wee second-hand bookshop in

across a book called "Teach Yourself Doric" by Douglas Kynoch. I'm
