Large white peppermint sweeties, traditionally associated with grannies (who
always semed to magically produce a 'wee pokie o grannie sookers' whenever a
bairn hurt him/herself, as a distraction/pacifier). They used to last
forever - but you wouldn't get many in a 'quarter'! Also known as
"pepperies" in some parts.
(Helen I'm sure would have an even better answer, given her Fife sweetie
shop heritage!)

Don't forget 'the twins' and 'the bairn'. I mean, calling your mum, dad and
grandfather Maw, Paw and Grandpaw is fine, but what are the childrens names?
twin 1, twin 2, and bairn? Can you imagine if all parents called their
children that?!

I always wondered about that one....I mean, they can afford a holiday home
as well(the but n' ben) but not a bigger house?
On another note, did anyone ever see the Naked Video programme (comedy
sketch show on BBC2, I think). They did a Broons spoof once, where a lot of
these points were taken up and made a mockery of! The thing I can always
remember is the Bairn complaining she'd been wearing 'the same stupid pink
dress for 50 years!' and the twins asking what their names were...

Ta, Helen - I'll try to get around to looking it over this weekend sometime.
