I used to know that Romanian gypsies were sent to Transnistria.
So now I learn that in fact, unlike romanian jews, they were sent
to Germany. Also, if we are to believe both the above and the
known estimates about the number of gypsy victims under the Germans
(about 700 000), more than half of them were comming from Romania.
(SBIBETN).
By the way, it is totally incorrect that the gypsy community is
officially put at 400 000 - the double was the result of the last
population census. Probably not the only incorrect data in this
release.
Now I am thinking: the third generation is now challenged to
pay for crimes happened 55 years ago, which are in contradiction
with the facts admitted so far about the subject and noone will
ever be able to prove. Then, despite of your opinion, Mircea, that
the communist crimes are burried under the vail of time, is it
not the minimum for this generation to do - care for a clear
justice for the crimes against our parents and grandparents,
which can still be proved ? I mean at least imposing world wide
the notion that the crime of negation of Gulag is to be treated
as severly as that of negation of Hollocaust ? Following the air
of the time, probably the seven eastern european countries should
put together a claim of zillions $ against Russia for the invasion,
and US and England for the betrayal. The sum should compensate
for the 50 years long human and economic consequences for 110
Million people. Just joking :-)
Seems however that this is the tune of the day, for gaining attention.

Could be even higher, if you consider the semnificativ percentaje of mixed
marriages btw. Roms and Rumanians. Nobody can know exactly how much Rom blood
has in its veins. And don't forget that many full blooded Roms were recordes

I'm positive the correct figure for the 1992 census was the one I quoted above.
On the other hand, "Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 1997," issued
by U.S. Department of State for Romania,
http://www.state.gov/www/global/human_rights/1997_hrp_report/romania.html
*estimates* the Rromai population "at approximately 2 million persons," without
stating any facts supporting this figure.
However, "CIA World Factbook 1997" data--visit the link
http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/ro.html
or see details below--appear based on the 1992 census.

Well, the same governmental source stated that the 1992 census "was organised
[...] in conformity with the right of every person to freely declare his/her
ethnic origin and mother tongue." Still, in recent years the Gypsy minority of
Romania seemed rather confused about its identity. Before 1989 many Gypsies from
Transylvania preferred to declare themselves ethnic Hungarians. Immediately
after december 1989, thousands of Rroms invaded Western Europe claiming to be
Romanian revolutionaries. Nowadays, some Rroms look quite fond of their
"oppressed minority" image.
To answer your question, I know of no other data; therefore, lack of supporting
evidence renders alternative believes as rather irrelevant.

Yes, Sir, I have an objection to make. I think that "legionars",

this pompous ass Narden claims that most of the Romanians that read this NG

RTw 05/02 1216 Romania changes official name for gypsies
/1995
BUCHAREST, May 2 (Reuter) - The Romanian government has changed the
official name for the gypsy minority to "Tigan" replacing "Romani,"
supposedly to avoid confusion with ethnic Romanians, but gypsy leaders
called the move discriminatory.
"This change is to prevent any possible confusion between Romanians
and the gypsies," Foreign Ministry spokesman Mircea Geoana told Reuters on
Tuesday. He said the move was launched by the foreign ministry to put
Romania in line with terminology used by international organisations such
as the United Nations.
Several recent reports, however, including a Council of Europe study
in 1994, refer to the Romanian gypsies as "Roma."
"Tigan" is the direct Romanian translation of gypsy. Ion Bidia,
president of the Ethnic Romani Community, said its members regarded the
change as a slur which would only worsen ethnic tensions between
Romanians and gypsies.
"This (Tigan) is an insulting word for us, a vendetta against us,"
said Bidia.
A 1992 census showed Romania had 400,000 gypsies but their community
leaders insist the number is more like two million.
Geoana did not say so but many Romanians resent what they see as a
portrayal abroad of the gypsy minority as poor and downtrodden, saying it
reflects badly on Romania.
There is also resentment among ethnic Romanians that members of the
gypsy minority seek asylum abroad as Romanians.
In a memorandum on why Prime Minister Nicolae Vacaroiu ordered the
change, Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu said the word "Romani" confused
international opinion and "could lead to an identification of the Romanians
with the so-called Romani."
Bidia accused Vacaroiu's leftist government of using the gypsy
community as scapegoats for "the economic disaster of the country" and of
painting them "as black sheep."
He threatened to call street protests until the government swapped
back to the less offensive "Romani" label.
"We are Romani from Romania and we have fought for years to win our
identity," Bidia said.
Under fascist rule in World War Two, Romania sent as many as 500,000
gypsies to death in concentration camps. Resentment against gypsies has
exploded since the end of communism in 1989 with gypsies blamed for
everything from the poor state of Bucharest to the theft of reflective road
markers.

Shit bucket, I told you not to interfere any more with threads before you

separating tigani,

It is obvious you need a remedial class. Want a second opinion? It wouldn't do
you much good. You are too dumb; if dumb were dirt, you would be about an acre.

Take me for example: I have absolutely no sympathy for you. I think you are the
worst possible advocate for the Gypsy cause. I think you are putting your
moronic ego ahead of the Gypsy cause. I think you do not care about the Gypsies,

Some meaning, yes. I get meaning from other things. It all adds up.

Because all I did was post a news item about the Rroma, and out came the

Why should I ? I am neither your guardian angel nor a world saviour kind
ofhypocrite like you. Even more, personally I think saving you from losing your
last
contacts with reality will be a mighty hard task for your guardian angels
themselves.
For myself, I was just asking, why do you need to be such a racist and an idiot
at
the same time. There are obvious - but very seldom - signs, you might do better
if it were not for your thick ego wanting to be right and a hero applaused by
everyone at any time. So much for my praising ratio for today.
And maybe a modest request (I know you will not be able to satisfy it, but I
tried).
Could you refrain from your boring "tac o tac" game of imagining to through
back to
the others what ever they say about you ? It is neither funny, nor right or
convincing anyone of more but your endless racist helplessness. It is a little
bit like
"Wally ma pupi in cur" - "Si eu pe tine", kind of defense: both the level and
the efficiency being the same.

BUCHAREST, May 2 (Reuter) - The Romanian government has changed the
official name for the gypsy minority to "Tigan" replacing "Romani,"
supposedly to avoid confusion with ethnic Romanians, but gypsy leaders
called the move discriminatory.

Now shit bucket, what does this exactly say ? What is an official name,
where is it defined by whom and under what protestion. I would say first
this is a Reuter correspondent knowing what news he may ge tpayed for
and on top of it zero information. You have still to work a lot about
it to make a point, cause you may be sure that noone will take your half
blurred pieces of whine to check them against reality and make your
point for you. Friendly racist, piss off !

Well, you bigotted bag of barf, I would suggest that you contact Reuters
and inform them of the Shining Truth.

Shit bucket, never forget: you are the only activist here around - together
maybe withsome cryptocommunist pals of yours. Activism is your passion, so you
go and talk to Reuter, find out the truth and tell it to me. What I know is
that there are Rrom parties called like that, that there are TV emissions
talking only about Rroms, so something about your Reuters pamphlet is not in
perfect accord with reality. The rest, up to you to find out, shit collector -
even if you change your name, your opac mind is unmistakeable.

Oh yes shit bucket, that's what you are: the missing link between Martin

And one more thing, shit bucket. It is not with calomny or your sick
imperatives that you will get anyone interested in your obsessions. I think
Reuters brought an irrelevant news which had no impact on the politcal
evolution I saw. If you believe me wrong and it is important to _you_, go out
and prove it. There are more important problems in this world than you thick
mind can hold.Jews used to have a good yidish word for the one among them who
- inadvertedly, by vanity or stupidity incited to antisemitism, and they were
doing all the possible to teach them reality. I think this is what Rroms
should do to you, if they do have a minority culture, which I believe. Teach
you to shut up !

what is that Reuters law about to start with, if one can see no consequences ?

That's exactly the question you still have to clear up shit bucket:
whose law was it exactly and what are its concrete implications. If of
course, you have something to say other that barking around.
Then why claim that it was a "Reuters law"?
|whose law was it exactly and what are its concrete implications. If of
|course, you have something to say other that barking around.
Ask the officials the Reuters reporter spoke with. I recall the time when
this report and other reports were posted to scr, and almost to a person,
the romanians on ng were absolutely opposed to referring to the tigani as
Rrom or Rroma or Romani. The defence of the Romanian government for their
administrative decree was loud and clear. THAT was real.
