MURDER CASE: People v. Alfredo Li

PROSECUTOR: Opening-People (Quote) I'm sorry to give you such a brutal
description of these wounds of Linda Burgos, but this is a particularly
brutal murder that you're going to hear about, it was not an accident.
It was an execution. It was the crushing of a vibrant life, and you're
going to hear about that life.

PROSECUTOR: Opening-People (Quote) You're going to hear of an incident
where he took Linda Burgos in a play fight and held a gun to her head in
what would become a dress rehearsal for her death.

PROSECUTOR: Opening-People (Quote) What he did to Linda Burgos in the
back of the van was not an accident. What he did was to force her to
take her clothes off so that she couldn't run away. There was no
struggle in the back of the van. You are not going to see any evidence
as a struggle on her body.

PROSECUTOR: Opening-People (Quote) He didn't know that a medical
examinar would be able to tell you that it was a contact wound and not
consistent with the struggle that he described.

PROSECUTOR: Opening-People (Quote) The evidence is going to show that in
an instant by placing a gun so close to her head execution style he
intentionally murdered the poor young girl.

PAST CRIMINAL RECORD

Alfredo Li, Chinese Immigrant from Lima, Peru: Convicted in Minnesota
for armed robbery. Arrested for robbery in Queens for which the Alfredo
Li received a plea bargain of Petit Larceny.

THIS STATEMENT WAS READ BY THE BURGOS FAMILY IN COURT

Honorable Mr. Judge: Linda Burgos was a young vibrant girl who looked at
life as being full of promises, hope, and a future. She was full of
energy, someone who wanted to do so much. She was trusting, actually
beleiving that in this world there was no harm, no hate, no hurting. She
was led to beleive that beautiful things can happen, wonderful things,
things she would never get in the real world. Her biggest belief was
beleiving and trusting someone named Alfredo Li, Li promised her fame,
fortune, a real future, he promised her the glamour, the glory we see
everyday on T.V., Linda, her dreams come true, for someone who actually
thought it would, never happen so fast, so soon, so simple, she trusted
in him, she handed him her career, her dreams, her future, he in turn
abused the power intrusted in him, his manipulation never catching onto
this young lady who even signed contracts to make all look and sound so
legal, so real, so unbeleiving real, he took her for granted, managed
her like some one manages a puppet, making it beleive that this is the
way it was, just go along and soon you'll be in pictures, in movies,
making your own sweet sounds. Even at the end, she beleived in him, fear
began, to grow, but maybe if talking to him made him understand that it
was only business, he beleived otherwise, he beleived he would make her
fall in love with him, he beleived in making her his, he managed her
career, her future, he also beleived he could manage her heart. And when
reality suddently set in that Linda did have a mind of her own, he
decided to appoint himself her executioner, only because reality finally
set in, he shot her in the head, dispose of her like you dispose of
something no longer needed, That night, (July 28, 1992 9:45 PM) went
home, slept, got up ate breakfast and most likely did what most american
citizens do, not caring that at that moment Linda lay dead, Did not turn
himself in, went about life without a care in the world, until he was
finally asked six days later that he was wanted for Questioning in the
Murder of Ms. Linda D. Burgos. He was actually given the chance , the
choice to walk in, freely, into the police station, when he actually
confesses to the crime, he is given the choice to call a lawyer, given
the choice to sit in a cell, fall asleep, get up, have a breakfast etc..
This man has been given a choice since day one, The law has made this
possible, he has been given the choice to re enact the crime, given the
choice to express his feelings, his fears, etc.. He is now also able to
plea-bargin if possible, for a lighter sentence, he will probably
choose, and why not? Society has made it possible, a plea-bargin would
mean 15-life, Good behavior, 7 years, including probation and a chance,
a trusting chance to continue life, to continue beleiving , making
choices, deciding. No one would be there to choose for him, to think for
him, he will be able to do this and more if given the chance. He will be
able to put it all behind, to forget, He will be able to buy his
favorite foods, dress in his finest clothes, drive his cars, he will be
able to sleep, wake up, see the sun, Hear the birds, look and feel, And
why not? He has been given the choice to choose. But, what about Linda,
who chooses for her now? Will she be able to see the next day again,
laugh, smile, will she be able to make plan's again for the future?
Alfredo Li, made sure she didn't, he decided on July 28, 1992, at 9:45
P.M. that Linda didn't deserve to live, her life had to come to an end,
and an end it came to when he put a bullet into her head, a sure way to
destroy a dream, a hope. He has not only destroyed her life, her chance
to live, her future, he has also destroyed, her dreams to become
someone, her future of making other's happy. He has destroyed her
father, brother's and sisters, Her Grandmother, Grandfather, uncles,
aunts, he has destroyed happiness, a laugh without feeling guilty, a
moment of peace, without remembering the tragedy, the thoughts are
becoming more blameable, decitions are thought of a little to late, hope
that maybe it's all a dream, until reality sets in. Who gave him the
right to decide her fate? Who gave him the right to kill her dreams? She
trusted him, he was the one person that was going to make it all come
true, and it did, every parents nightmare, He has killed all of us, he
should be charged with the murder of her father's dream for his
daughter, he should be charged, with the rape of a hope, he should be
charged, with the aggravated assault of the heart, he should be charged
with the robbery of a smile, And if given a chance he should be charged
with murder, Murder, because he murdered a future, a hope, an assest to
this world, Linda's death should not be in vain and if giving this man
less than what he deserve's, will only mean, that everyone who will
become involved, would have help Alfredo Li, pull the trigger.
Let Justice be done
Donot bury a dream
Donot close a hope
Donot make a choice, that will make Linda's death look like no one
really died, someone just stopped to exist!

The New York City Criminal Court System Did Not & Has Not Acted
Appropiately In Punishing The Criminal Who Murdered Linda Burgos In 1992
To The Fullest Extent Of The Criminal Law. The Crime Was Murder In The
First Degree And Proven In Court By Evidence, Witnesses, Ballistics And
The Medical Examinar. The Criminal Lawyer Manipulated The Jury In
Thinking Otherwise, Don't Forget, The Same Lawyer Represented A Client
That Made Him Look Famous In The "Preppie Murder Case" And Used The Same
Criminal Defense Tactics In Tarnishing The Reputation Of Linda Burgos,
Her Friends That Appear In Court, Witnesses And Her Own StepSister. He
Made The Medical Examinar Look Like He Did Not No His Job, He Made The
Ballistics Expert Look Like He Did Not No His Profession, He Manipulated
The Jury By Doing Gestures And Favors. This Case Was Behind Doors And As
A Puerto Rican, I Feel That The Case Was Also Favored On The Side Of The
Criminal Defense From The Start. As A Puerto Rican I Did Not Accept The
Verdict, And As A Puerto Rican I Do Not Accept The Cheap Justice Handed
Down By The New York City Criminal Court System In 1995. The Criminal Is
An INS Client And I Personally Feel That The INS Office In NYC Has To
Investigate The Criminal And Institute Additional Punishment For
Violation Of The Immigration Laws.
