The company really move out from Malaysia is Read-Rite. They made such
decision for two reasons,
1. Acute shortage of labors/operators in Penang.
2. US management was misled by false yield and operation reports
published by Philippines operation.
Later or sooner, Read Rite will realize is big mistake to move out
from Malaysia . For instance, IOMEGA just move back its subcontractor
operation to Penang from Philippines.
Philippines has plenty of cheap labors and engineers are fact nobody
can deny it. But to survive in ever changing industry, strong
management team with quality workforce plus good infrastructure are
overrided cheap labor cost. If you are in capital intensives industry,
labor cost is a peanut compared with other overhead costs.
And Philippines has one X factor which is going to kill them very
soon.
Abduction/kidnaping - I knew two high management expats posted in
Philippines need to evacuate for safety reason.
