CHANDIGARH: Haryana has spent over Rs 45 crore during the
last three years and a provision of over Rs 13 crore has
been made for the current financial year to extend benefits
to nearly 60,000 mothers and an equal number of girls under
the ``Apni Beti Apna Dhan'' scheme.
The scheme, launched by the previous Congress government in
the state, aims at improving the status of the girl child
both in her family and in society, so that she is accepted
as an asset and not as a burden. All scheduled caste and
backward class families, except class one and class two
officers and income tax paying families, and in the case of
other castes, families below the poverty line having a
maximum of three children, including the newly born, are
eligible for the scheme.
Under this scheme, a mother giving birth to a girl child is
given Rs 500 for nutrition while Rs 2,500 is invested in
Indira Vikas Patras in the name of the girl child for a
period of 18 years. The maturity amount of Rs 25,000 is
handed over to the girl when she attains the age of 18. In
case she is not married till then, she is free to spend the
amount on her education or starting some economic activity
or even spending the amount on her marriage.
Social welfare minister Kamala Verma said on Thursday that
1,77,610 mothers had been provided cash assistance at the
rate of Rs 500 each and investment in Indira Vikas Patras in
the name of 1,42,195 girls at the rate of Rs 2,500 each had
been made under the scheme from May 1996 to March 1999.
why don't you retire back to your "ancient" facist ways of racism and
oppression (i.e Hinduism) and stop bothering faiths of enlightenments, stop
bothering faiths which gave mankind the virgin taste of equality, stop
bothering faiths that brought knowledge of Science, philosophy, mathematics
to this earth. You religion is dying.....face the facts......it will
eventually be purged from this earth along with its sexist and facist ways.
