Dear ALL:
If there is one undeniable attribute to Otasco Otanda, it is to be found in
his consistency. Otasco's comments are not only simply consistent, they are
also remarkably consistent by their portrayal of unbridled poorly informed
ethnic chauvinism, arrogance, hateful nature and the sheer ignorance they
uniformly portray.
Otasco's consistently stupid, arrogant and hateful comments are always
directed at all Nigerians except his kin, the Igbo. As we speak, Igbo
students continue to be admitted to the University of Ibadan along with their
fellow citizens from all over Nigeria. While at UI, these students are still
taught by a diverse faculty composed of the best that Nigeria has to offer
(and can afford to keep within her boundaries) from all over the country,
including the Southeast.
The last two decades have witnessed a progressive deterioration of
educational standards in all Nigerian post secondary institutions. The
deterioration started during Obasanjo's first regime, when in one fell swoop
he unwittingly created upwards of 10 to 12 additional universities in
Nigeria, without increasing the total budgetary allocation for Nigerian
universities in a proportional manner. The falling standards in Nigerian
universities are due to inadequate funding from successive governments whose
priorities did not include academic excellence.
It is stupid and almost asinine to ascribe the falling standards at UI to an
exodus of Igbo professors. This might be what Otasco and his fellow Internet
Warriors want to believe. But it is absolutely wrong! If the falling
standards at UI are due to the absence of Igbo professors, one would presume
that the standards should be rising at the University of Nsukka, which
logically should be the magnet institution for Otasco's phantom persecuted
Igbo professors. The latter assumption will hold unless of course the
brilliant Igbo professors also feared persecution at the University of
Nsukka.
The facts will show that University of Nsukka has also suffered the same
deterioration in educational standards along with the other premier Nigerian
universities including UI, Unilag, ABU, and Unife (now Obafemi Awolowo
University). Put the blame where it lies! Stop dreaming! Face the realities!
Bye,
Quincy

Now that you have your pants in the proper place and you are safely "tucked"
in, I will for once agree with you on your two last paragraphs. But the
point remains, why don't you leave Otasco alone and tell us about your own
Yoruba people? Defend them if you must, but why are you the first and only
person to attempt to rebut or attack any credit given to Igbos? Why
shouldn't Otasco and those people you call "internet warriors" extol the
virtues of their own people? O. K. "Quickie" Quincy, please give us a break
and stop being a rotten coward. Anu ofia nwuru anwu di ka gi.

Dear omo Nna,
i agree that Ota ng sko, o tan da, has the right to extol the virtues of his
people. Nevertheless, extoling the virtues of one's people and spreading lies
about other people is not a very good tactic and if he choose thus, the quick
Quickie has the right to condemn him.
All i have read emanating from these Online "Warlords" is nothing but rotten
shit a la Hitler and Neofascist, Neonazist Propaganda.
I bet the rotten Coward are those that hide behind the mantle of WWW to produce
venon. These children of vipers would definitely reap the fruits they are sowing

Emopin
Dr. Chikwe: "PSAN Ambassador Extraordinary,"
Alhaji Na'Abba: "Political Gladiator" and
Governor Lam Adesina: "Governor Extraordinary."
My dear OKQuincy a.k.a olayiwola kassim,
Just look at the above announcement. Doesn't that
sound like a circus? What would our colleagues at
Harvard, Western Ontario, Cambridge, etc., think of
nigeria and her colleges after reading something like
that?
The above, simply put, is a malaise that has become a
University of Ibadan; it is a result of a gradually
deteriorating sense of orientation or focus.
I can't really fault you on your reaction to my
righteous outrage against UI; after all, UI is your
alma mater.
However, let me briefly tell you one or two things.
First, the Biafra-nigeria war was entirely fought in
the East, and at least 90% of that zone, including
UNN, was destroyed in that 3-year long war. It is an
undisputable fact that nigeria never rebuilt that
zone; funding for UNN can best be described as
laughaphable, and in fact, some of the university
buildings destroyed during that war still remain
detached till today. Moreover after that war, the
Biafran money, which fuelled the economy of the East
during the war, was completely scrapped, an action
that left the zone barren and very difficult to
rebuilt with regional input or effort. All these make
it extremely difficult to make any valid comparative
analysis of UNN, for example, against other
universities in the country. It is like comparing
apples and rotten oranges.
Second, shortly after the war, a lot of "evil"
policies and decrees like indigenization decree, state
of origin, etc., were crafted and implemented. Since
then, politics of faculty and staff, for example, took
over merit, excellence and leadership. As a result,
UI, for example, became university of yoruba; you have
to be a yoruba to mount the saddle where all crucial
decisions are made. How many non-yoruba VCs have
presided over UI since 1967, I ask? Right now it is
Professor Falase, and Professor Ogunniyi is already
slated to take over from him. In a essence, UI is an
ethnic family business.
Finally, let me tell you that UI consistently received
FG funding in the range of $100m per year in the 70's,
which gradually came down to just above $10-20m per
year currently. UI also have chunked out a lot of
graduates; moreover more than 70% of industries and
large companies in nigeria are located in yorubaland,
and while UNN and the rest in the East severely lacked
basic infrastructural facilities, UI never lacked
them. I listed all these because they are what
capable VCs take advantage of to sustain growth and
excellence in their universities, rather than a
straight dependence on FG funding; but it appears to
me that UI VCs over the years just were too heady to
even see or capitaliize on them.
On your mistake of calling UNN University of Nsukka, I
forgive you. Note, however, that in nowhere in my
comment below did I specifically refer to igbos; I
only said "the likes of Professor Dike", which
necessarily includes all non-yorubas from all of
nigeria. You are therefore the one who is suffering
from very serious ethnic problems.
