c/o Nigerian Prison Services
Headquarters Office, P.M.B. I6,
Garki-Abuja.
09/09/96
Dear Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti,
firstly, I will like to wish you belated happy birthday on the occasion of
your 56th birthday. I wish you a prosperous and many glorious years ahead,
long life and an enduring stamina to continue the struggle for freedom and
democracy and the realisation of your dream for a JUST, EGALITARIAN AND
PROSPEROUS NIGERIAN NATION.
Needless to revisit the "CAUSE CELEBRE" for your incarceration, the whole
world is watching with keen interest and trepidation the spate of
injustice, the reign of terror unleashed on our people, the extra-judicial
killings, the organised state-terrorism, the bastardisation of our economy,
the hunger and starvation of the masses are being subjected to and the
process of ETHNIC CLEASING directed at our people. As we all know, there is
no beginning without an end, so we are all standing as WITNESSES OF TODAY
for the unknown TOMORROW.
Secondly, my intention is to pay you my own tribute today, now that life
has not been snuffed out of you yet. I really adore your and I salute you
for your courage, for your unflinching determination for freedom and
justice and for the enthronement of democracy in your fatherland. Even in
incarceration, you remain the beacon of hope for the down-trodden masses.
You are a STAR among stars and MAN amongst men, you have doubled the good
foot-prints of your ancestors. At the cost of your comfort and safety, you
choose to champion the course of freedom and democrc y, all your efforts
and sufferings will never go in vain for the creator is watching the
travails of men. Above all you have succeeded to catch a NICHE for yourself
in the annals of Nigerian political history, just like your parents of
blessed memory, please accept my congratulations.
The nagging problems of our African leaders is their constant tendency of
getting themselves drowned with power, they allow themselves to get power
drunk to an unredeemable level of loosing their consciousness and their
conscience. They get blindfolded with power and subsequently get carried
away to Fool's Paradise. When they become too comfortable with their power,
they equate themselves with GOD, that they could no longer discern the
stack reality of
short-memory-syndrome of not taking cues from history. We were all
opportuned to witness the beginning and the end of the MASTER SERGENT DOE
OF LIBERIA, TYRANT in these days of his power drunkenness. But I want to
assure you that the days of the DICTATOR AND HIS COMRADES-IN-CRIM have been
declared numbered by the GREAT DIVINE.
It is reported, that you have been very sick, lost a lot of weight and
appetite and has little or no visitation rights in your solitary
confinement, please take heart, though you are in a solitary confinement
you are not alone in there. The spirits of our fore-fathers are all with
you and aove all God is with you and in his infinite mercy, he shall
continue to guide you and see you through all these grotesque of justice.

Perhaps it is pertinent to mention to you the dismal performance of the
International Community, contrary to your expectations on their expected
role of bringing pressure to bear on our dictatorial regime. The limited
Economic Sanctions imposed have not had the desired results, perhaps
because of the impositors double-dealings. To compound our dilemma, the
irony of it all is that a chunk of our so called intelligentsia who are
supposed to mobilise the populace are either casting their hopes and
aspirations for political and economic emancipation entirely on the Western
and the International Community, just as if those communities have no
problems of their own., Whereas African affairs occupy the least position
of their foreign policies. Further more, their ineptitude towards
imposition of tighter and full scale sanction could also be interpreted as
taking our crisis as purely domestic affairs which to them require little
or no foreign interferrence.
At the same time a good portion of the same cultured and the elite class
have debased themselves
for material gains to run errands for the dictatorial class they were
suppose to set out to unseat. This results to a mass of directionless
populace who are yawing for motivation and direction. Even the execution of
Ken and his other compatriots and the hue and cry that followed it did not
soft pedal the continued rampaging on hat population. Neither was the
acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 presidential election illegally
detained released. There seems not to be an end in sight yet for the suffer
inudated with another barren exercise of "Endless-Transition-Programmes",
coupled with a colossal waste of our dwindling oil revenues.
The struggle for liberation has just begun, they can not succeed to silence
everybody but we need men and women of honour, people with conscience and
not sycophants, praise-singers and bogus solidarity organisers. We need
very courageous patriots like your good self, Femi Falana, Gani Fawehinmi
and other who had been forced to hang-on temporarily due to their
incarceration. The struggle will however not be incarcerated with you
people, it must continue as this is the only way to keep your spirit alive
in your solitary confinement. It is a reassurance that your struggle has
not be in vain. Once again on behalf of myself and our mutual organisation,
I WISH YOU A SPEEDY RECOVERY.
