I purposely changed the heading of the email from the thread to put weight
to my point.

As usual I have always maintained that the true test of a moralist is how
they react when thinks strike home or close to home. It is a shame that till
now we have very few names, for "Tinubu" petition, than we had for Buhari.

I will compare the signatories to Buharigate and those to Tinubu when the
current exercise is completed and therein will be exposed the true enemies
of progress in Naija. All those loud mouths then who are quiet now are the
real enemies of the nation and are probably thieves and cheats themselves.

Lets have compatriots come up who will call a spade a spade.

Wale Adewoyin.

The problem many people has with this petition is the focus and aspersion
that is being cast on the good people of Lagos State. They are calling for a
Federal take over which is unconstitutional. Lets put the people of Lagos
State on the record and if justice fails then we go from there.
This is waht they did in the Old Western Region in 1963-64 and look at where
we are today.

Paul,

I sincerely suggest you go read the text of the letter one more time.
What you are saying below is totally and completely unconnected with the
text of the letter.

Paul I am not advocating(and I don't think anybody is) the takeover of the
state by the federal govt.. I think the people of Lagos state should even
see to it that it is in their interest that justice be served.

So are you advocating that we look the other way, because it was pointed out
by a northern newspaper, so we must guard the lie? The petition is not
fashioned to cast any aspertions on the citizens of Lagos state, but
addresses an issue of enormous proportions that needs to be dealt with, no
matter who the culprit is.

Nigeria 1999 is not the same as Nigeria 1963. At least I hope not. Gees lets
pick our battles wisely.

I appreciate your points. No one is suggesting that we look the other way.
But we must guard against mob mentality. History has a way of repeating
itself.
I believe some of our requests are modest and will show the deficiency in
this new experiment/constitution.
1. Our complains should go to Lagos State Police Commissioner to establish
precedent.
2. Whatever the findings of LSPC will normally go to Director of Public
Prosecution in Lagos State. In my view the DPP is the crux of matter whether
we have independent judiciary, to expose the weakness of that set up so that
we can see that the current constitution is bad.
If for example the Lagos DPP failed to prosecute the Gov.out of fear, then
you can see that the judiciary is not independent and subject to
manipulation. We need to look beyond Tinubu and look at the set-up.
We might want to have an independent DPP whose job is to fight crime. We can
then debate the merit or lack of merit popularly elected DPP.
If Lagos DPP can not prosecute Tinubu today because he is afraid of his
job, what about your son getting involve in an auto accident with Gov. son.
When the Gov. son is charge with reckless driving. The case is going to be
LDPP vs Gov. son and you are a material witness for the state. ....how do
you get justice in Lagos State ?
Assuming Lagos DPP is waffling and dancing the shuffle, nothing stopping the
Lagos State House to get a copy of LSPC and put the pressure on the Gov.
We that are outside needs to present our case as knowledgeable about the
set-up and not behaving like a mob. We are not going to get democracy one
day, the way we handle some of these events will establish precedent.
Gov. of Louisiana was a convicted mobster but the Louisiana people did not
believe it, they think it was a vendetta from US Federal Govt. You remember
Marion Barry of Washington DC. convicted, went to jail and came back to be
elected again. The point here is that representative democracy does not
necessarily bring desire outcome. But it is the will of the majority that
will keep the peace.
