Elijah,
Possible Solution:
Assume that all the items are at Point A and you want to get them to
Point B:
a) Take the goat across to Point B
b) Go back and pick the yams from A
c) Drop the yams at B and take the goat back to A
e) Drop the goat at A and pick the lion and take it across to meet the
yams at B
f) Go back for the goat at A and take it to B
Hope this works for you!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

With the weekend approaching, I thought you people might like a good
riddle to rattle your brains. Have fun!

Here goes:

I was going on a journey and I had with me a lion, a goat and a sack of
yams. I came to this river that has a small canoe. The canoe can only
carry me and one other "item" but I have to ferry all the items across.
In my absence, the lion will eat the goat or the goat will eat the yams.
How do I arrange the crossing so that I can get the lion, goat and yams
across safely?

Feed the goat with the yams. Let the
lion eat the goat. Take the lion
and cross the river. In the end, you
still have your yams, your goat and
your lion with you. Hoping that the
lion doesn't ask to use the washroom
before the crossing is over.

The yams are in the sack, right? First, you take the lion, then the yam,
then the goat. Since the yams are in a sack ( and goats don't eat sacks) the
goat cannot get to it while you are crossing with the lion. Since the lion
does not eat yam, it is safe to leave it at the other side with the lion. Am I
right?

take the goat across first,
come back and take the lion across,
when you return, bring the goat back leaving the lion on its own,
now take the yams and leave them with the lion
finally retun and taken the goat across for the second time.

Elijah,

I have not heard this riddle in ages, not since I was a child.

You should cross the river first with the goat,as the lion will not eat
the yams, and return alone. You cross a second time with the yams, leave
the yams on the other side and return with the goat in the canoe. You
then cross a third time with the lion, leaving behind the goat. When
you drop the lion on the other side, you come back alone finally for the
goat.

Enjoy your weekend.

Mike.

Using the internet for the first time, one finds that mistakes are too
easily made. I replied this riddle using Damian's (my colleague's)
account by mistake. Here is a second try, using my name, in an attempt
to correct the earlier error.

Regards, (and apologies to Damian),

Michael.

Take the lion and the goat over first then leave it.
Get the lion and on the way to get the tam take the goat with you.
Leave the goat and take the yam over to the lion and leave them.
Then go back for the goat.
Cheers

Why not just pump the lion and the goat up with morphine? Then you can do
it all in one trip!
