Chairman, Cadbury Plc, Dr. Christopher Kolade has protested
government's non- disbursement of between N7 billion and 10 billion
Education Tax Fund contributed by the private sector in the past five

Dr. Kolade wondered why the fund should be locked up in the vaults of

Procedural details for the nascent debate on the 1995 draft
constitution were yesterday reeled out by the Constitutional Debate
Coordinating Committee (CDCC).For purpose of the debate, which committee

Pandemonium broke out yesterday at the Ekiti State Police Command
premises in Ado-Ekiti as the state military administrator, Navy captain
M. Atanda Yussuf narrowly escaped being killed by gunshots from some
irate policemen. Navy Captain Yussuff has gone to the police
headquarters to intervene in the rancour brewing between some mobile
policemen and soldiers who had created disaffection within themselves

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice,
Chif Ricahrd Akinjide (SAN), on Tuesday night described the presidential

as "a gimmick designed by the nation's military to perpetuate itself in

development package for the oil rich Niger-Delta area which has been on
the boil for several years now over alleged neglect by the Federal
Government. Agitation for redress of the situation has often been
violent like in Ogoniland where demands by the Movement for the Survival
of Ogoni People (MOSOP) culminated first in the murder of the "Ogoni
Four," and later in the hanging of the "Ogoni Nine" led by writer, Ken

Activists Set Agenda For UN Rapporteur's Visit:
Nigeria's human rights groups have started setting agenda for the UN
special rapporteur, Mr. Soli Jehangir Sobrajee, billed to start a 10-day
investigation of alleged human rights abuses in the country as from
Sunday. Topping their agenda are demands for the abbrogation of several
obnoxious decrees including Decree 2 of 1984 and the release of

The violent disturbances in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia
state has worsened with the killing of about 20 persons suspected to be
members of the dreaded "Mafia Scud" or "Down Below" as they were called.

'Arisekola Not Invited To UI':
Ibadan millionaire businessman and owner of the Monitor Newspaper,
Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao, who narrowly escaped death on Tuesday
in the hands of irate students of the University of Ibadan was not
officially invited to the institution, authorities of the university
have claimed. Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Omoniyi
Adewoye maintained in an interview yesterday that Arisekola was not
formally invited to the 50th anniversary of the institution. -Daily
