OSOGBO — DEPUTY Governor Iyiola Omisore of Osun State dismissed yesterday, Olugbenga Damola Adebayo, alias Fryo, who alleged that the deputy governor once offered him N5 million to assassinate Justice Minister, Chief Bola Ige.
Fryo, through his lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo had, last Monday in a sworn-affidavit also said Chief Omisore masterminded the assault of Chief Ige at the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, a few days before his assassination.
But breaking his silence on the allegations at a press conference in Osogbo yesterday, the Osun State Deputy Governor said he had never met Fryo.
Indeed he said he heard of the name of the man described by the police as prime suspect in the murder of Chief Ige for the first time after he (Fryo) was declared wanted. Chief Omisore who appeared unruffled during the press conference wondered how the suspect came about his story. His words: "I don’t know him (Fryo) from Adams. So whatever he might have said, I don’t know how he came about his story.
"The first time I heard about him was when the police were looking for him and they said his name was among the people they were looking for.
"They described him as a close aide of Hon. Odunayo Olagbaju and I asked the police team to go to Ife and meet the local government chairman, may be he would be able to locate him for them.
"That was the first time I heard about him at all. How he now came about the story is still a mystery to me. Be that as it may, sometimes in politics or in public life, stories of such nature are not far-fetched. But they are hardly substantiated."
He said soon after the assassination of Osun State Assemblyman, Mr. Odunayo Olagbaju, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) (Zone II) in company of the state Police Commissioner visited him at home "and there was no other person with us."
Chief Omisore stated that the claim of Adebayo that an AIG came in when he was having a discussion on how to assassinate Chief Ige at the residence of the deputy governor was not true after all.
"If there was such a person, he would have met my aides, because they are the first bus stop. May be they don’t know how a Government House operates. They thought it is an ordinary house where you can just walk in and meet the landlord; if they had the benefit of working around us, they would know that some things are impossible."
Chief Omisore, while explaining what happened in Ile-Ife on December 15, last year when Chief Bola Ige was assaulted at the Palace of the Ooni admitted that he was with the traditional ruler on the day but said he left the town same day. He said he did not hold meeting with anybody after the palace ceremony.
"I was on the right side of Ooni, Chief Ige was on the left. That was how we left. So there was no way I could be in a meeting and I would not have people to testify to it. The working of government doesn’t allow you to do anything in secret."
Chief Omisore also denied that he was at a meeting at Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife after the humiliation of Chief Bola Ige where he supplied foods and drinks to celebrate "the success of their action." "That was a fact no one could controvert. That I was in a meeting with anybody is not true. These are facts that are salient. So to me, it is a figment of his (Adebayo) imagination," he said.
And on the allegation that, he had received the backing of the presidency on the Osun state crisis Chief Omisore maintained that the reference to Abuja and the President by the suspect was a blackmail.
"The reference to Abuja and presidency is just sheer blackmail. If the lawyer Fryo is using has anything against the presidency, let him face them squarely, because there is no point linking Osun crisis with the presidency", he stressed.
He also dismissed Adebayo’s claim that he (Omisore) was running errand for the presidency saying that he was an Alliance for Democracy (AD) Deputy governor.
"I am an AD deputy-governor, I do go to Abuja for official meetings only and like I have said, I was in Washington DC on an official trip when Olagbaju was killed. I was never on any presidential errand. I came back Friday morning and these are things you can cross-check."
The deputy governor who said he was not happy at the political thuggery in the state, stated that he would never participate in the murder of his political opponents.
"I will never plan the killing of anybody. I have never in my life conceived the idea of killing anybody. I have never even conceived the idea of thuggery in my life," he said.
On the allegation that he planned to cross-carpet to PDP, Chief Omisore said there was no truth in the allegation since the AD in Osun state was built around his own political structure.
Ninety percent of AD structure in this state from the ward level to the state level is Omisore’s political family. And since this crisis started, the governor has been trying to form a parallel organisation within the original AD structure."

He advised the police and others connected with investigating the murder of the Minister of Justice, the state lawmaker and others to do a thorough job "and also investigate the plan to poison me, the attack that led to the death of the driver of an AD Chief, Mr. Ayo Olowofoyeku."
