Orji Kalu supports Obasanjo for 2003, says aide
From Ese Awhotu, Abuja
The growing campaign for President Olusegun Obasanjo’s re-election is
receiving an impetus from a mostly unlikely quarter - Obasanjo’s
virulent critic and Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu - according to
the governor’s aide.
A Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor, Chief Jerry Okoro, who
dropped the hint in Aba, said Governor Kalu believes that President
Obasanjo has done very well for the country and will continue in that
manner in the future.
Chief Okoro debunked allegations that the relationship between Governor
Orji Uzor Kalu and President Obasanjo was icy. His words: "The
relationship between my governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, and the
President is very cordial and we are confident that under Obasanjo
government Igbo position will remain solid for a long time"
Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent soft spot for President Obasanjo and
that of other Igbo. The Comet on Sunday learnt, rests on a promise which
President Obasanjo has made to the Igbo to make sure they get their
positions back under his administration.
Two ministers, Dr (Mrs) Kema Chikwe and Chief Ojo Maduekwe, confirmed
the promise in Aba, with a call on the Igbo to give their full support
to President Obasanjo and strategise towards actualising the promise.
They contended that already six eastern ministers are serving under
President Obasanjo’s administration aside other appointments. The
serving ministers are Aviation Minister, Dr (Mrs) Kema Chikwe, Transport
Minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, Minister of Economic Matters, Chief
Vincent Ogbulalor, Minister for Health, Professor A.B.C. Nwosu, Minister
of State for Industry, Chief Lawrence Nworukpu and Minister of State for
Foreign Affairs, Duben Onyia.
Chikwe, who was one of the key actors at a recent rally tagged
"Obasanjo’s lectures" aimed at consolidating Igbo support for President
Obasanjo in the 2003 elections, said in Abuja over the weekend that
Nigerians appreciate President Obasanjo and the South-east will do
better under his administration.
She described President Obasanjo’s commitment to good governance as
incontrovertible, stating that right from inception of this
administration, the President declared a total onslaught on corruption,
which has been identified as the underlying factor militating against
the nation’s speedy progress.
Chikwe suggested the need to disseminate the truth so that Nigerians can
be better informed to actively participate in the democratic process.
Justifying why President Obasanjo should be re-elected in the 2003
elections, the aviation minister asserted that workers’ salaries have
been reviewed upwards, and regularly paid, adding that retired civil
servants now receive their pensions and gratuity on time.

Dear Mr Quincy: Igbo marginalization is a relevant question, and has always
been. "Igbo marginalization" means that Ndiigbo stand outside the banquet
hall called Nigeria to receive crumbs that fall from the master's table;
they are not permitted to enter the hall, what more to chair the occasion.
Igbo marginalization means that the Onye-Igbo can only be used and abused.
Igbo marginalization means that Obasanjo has not finished writing My
Command, because there are more troublesome Igbo people to be schemed out
of strategic positions and replaced with yesmen. If you need more lecture,
get back to me. Forever, Obododimma. OKQu...@aol.com wrote:

Question for ekalu etal:
How relevant is the issue of Igbo marginalization in the current
administration, given the above information and other data?
