Commission chairman Chris Ugokwe said the final count in the 1991 census, the
last census of Africa's most populous nation, was 88,992,220.
``The annual population growth rate is 2.83 percent and the current
population of Nigeria by mid-1997 is about 104 million people,'' he added.
In 1991 there were 44.5 million men and 44.4 million women.
