Recently a number of netters have written publicly here on
naijanet and to me privately concerning the level of decorum on
the new naijanet and what should be done about it.

In order to help us keep a clean and decorous house, we have in
operation (a) the Netiquettes already in force while we were
based at MIT; (b) the newly passed Rules. Anyone may ask for
enforcement of the Rules by following the laid-out procedure. Do
not leave this to the List admin alone. However, the List Admin
can act, under the netiquette, to yank off those who continuously
violate our sensibilities. And, under the netiquette, there is
no appeal to the BOA or anyone else. In addition, anyone who
places excessive load on the server on a continuous basis may be
summarily removed. By "excessive" load I mean mail dumping, and
the habit of writing a one liner, or a few lines at most, when
replying to several lines of previous mail. If you must reply to
a mail, make sure the quoted material is as small as your
contribution.

Elections to the BOA would begin later this month. When the BOA
is elected, then we can begin enforcing our new Rules. Until
then, the netiquette is always there.
