The entire oil in Ondo stste is located in the area inhabited by the Arogbo
Ijaw, none in Yoruba-speaking areas. These Arogbo Ijaw inhabit the entire
coastal areas all the way to the outskirts of Okitipupa and westwards up to
Epe and Badagry in Lagos State. The dubious status of Ondo as an oil
producing state is based on the inclusion into that state of these Ijaw
areas. This is why the Yoruba of Ondo State would not let the Arogbo Ijaw
join their kith and kin in
Delta State which is what they want. In order to maintain the myth
of a "Yoruba state" the Yoruba via OPC have been attempting to lay claims to
those oil-bearing Ijaw areas in Ondo State and this led
to the Ijaw-Illaje wars that raged until recently.
Also the OPC and Egbesu Boys have clashed in Lagos state, notably
in Ajegunle but over land disputes in Epe and Badagry. It was to pre-empt a
massive mobilization by the Egbesu Boys who were training in Odi to storm
Lagos to assist other Ijaw that led to the destructuction of Odi on the
order of Mr obasanjo (GTH, OND)
and his Yoruba clique.
I will be amazed if oil deposits in Ondo state is found outside
Ijaw areas. Just as the Youruba and others encourage the Ijaw to lay claims
to Igboland, including Igweocha, Igwenga and Ubani, they also have to gird
their loins to grapple with Ijaw territorial claims which stretch all the
way from the Ovia coastal plains in Edo state to Epe and badagry in Lagos
State. Right now, the Ijaw have even started to agitate for a change of the
name Edo State since that state is not inhabitated exclusively by the Edo
ethnic group.
