I read somewhere that Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder recently got into trouble
"off the coast of Auckland, New Zealand", and had to rescued by lifeguards.
Out of curiosity, which beach was this? (Probably one of the West Coast
beaches, I imagine.)

Ross (who was usually too wimpy to go in the water much beyond mid-March)

Karekare, just south of Piha. He wasn't the only one - He and Tim Finn were

swimming in a patrolled area, but both got caught in a rip and were 80
metres offshore before you could say "modern music is an oxymoron". :-)

Well if this doesn't just take the cake - on the news here in Canada
we heard that it happened in Australia. And here was I thinking that
Canadians were able to tell the difference between Australia and New
Zealand - I guess it really is the 52nd State after all :-).
