CD Universe is my main online shop (but no shop always has everything I
want in stock at a time, so I have to use others) which takes 8 days or
better, with a very modest upgrade price if I want faster shipping, I
think it's something like an extra $6US on top of what you would have
paid for shipping, yet this shop doesn't seem to be any more expensive
than CD Now to purchase from. Another shop, CD Cellar, always ships in 8
days as well (though their new site is at the present time buggy beyond
usable). I don't see how CD Now is worth it, if they are going to take 2
weeks or more.
Being a NZ store, CD Star is very fast IF they have what you want.

It used to consistently take 6 days to receive CDs from the States by
normal airmail. Supposedly 2-3 days by DHL, but it hardly seems worth
the extra US$25+.
Recently CD Now has started shipping European orders out of France
(which makes them take twice as long to get to the UK let alone NZ,
thanks to the famous efficiency of Europe's postal systems). Given the
geography knowledge of the average American it would not surprise me
if they are shipping orders to NZ via their European distribution
centre as well. Supposedly they have a warehouse there though, and
source most of their CDs from within Europe, so you should not have to
wait for US->France shipping in addition to France->NZ even if they do
get shipped from France.
Truetone records in Newmarket used to get imports in within a week of
sending the order (every Thursday). Since they ordered in bulk they
ended up cheaper than DHLing yourself if you were ordering less than
about 5 at once. This is going back quite a few years though so things
may have changed.
