I have a question: what is or what does it mean Hoeksche Waard ? Is it
a place, a region or something else ?

It's an island south of Rotterdam formed bij some of our rivers.

It's an island directly south of Rotterdam. There are a number of
villages on it, such as Puttershoek, Oud-Beijerland, and
Nieuw-Beijerland.

It's an island but you can better speak of a region the word island will
give a wrong impresion
