To All Who Care,
There is an upcoming conference to be held in Washington DC
sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The conference
is called Heroin Use and Addiction and will be well attended by those of
us who advocate Methadone Maintenance as a treatment for Narcotic
addiction. Should you be an advocate who believes in the efficacy of
Methadone as a treatment modality, we need your voice with us at this
important time. It is my understanding that this will be the first time
Methadone Patients have come together in numbers to protest the
inadequate treatment we are ALL subject to under the current system.
Even if you cannot afford to attend the conference, there will be a
contingent outside the conference peacefully protesting the treatment we
recieve as patients. Therefore, the more advocates we can gather
together, the more likely we are to have our message heard. We are all
tired of the treatment we recieve under the current system, which is
rampant with "for-profit" clinics who answer to noone except those who
care nothing about our treatment, or whether we are well or not. We are
tired of being "under suspicion" simply because we chose to take charge
of our lives and our treatment. We are tired of being given inadequate
doses of medicine and being rebuked when we ask for any amount over some
arbitrary figure set by someone with NO medical knowledge or background
whatsoever. It is important we stand up and be counted. We are tired of
the clinic personnel who treat us as second class citizens. So, join us
in Washington on September 29-30 to let those who can change things KNOW
how we feel.

you for your help and blessings.
