We'll (I and my fiance) be passing thru' Amsterdam (either July or August, this year) and on the way back intend to spend about 7-10 days in Holland. Can you guys give me any suggestions as to,
1. What are the places to visit ? I am more interested in spending my time in small places rather than big cities. But please include all information as to where all I can travel and what should I look for to enjoy the beauty/goodness of the country.
2. How is travel done in Holland ? (Am I right in calling the country Holland ?)
Public transportation ? Private ? Please bear with me, if I sound ignorant, for I am ignorant about the life and lifestyle in Holland.
3. What kind of weather can we expect ? What sort of clothing ?
4. Can we get along with just English ? In the cities, I think we can but in the countryside ?
5. What should I look out for ? (Both good and bad)
6. Last but least, Can I get the telephone number and the address of the Consulate/Embassy of The Netherlands in the U.S ?
I'd appreciate it very much if you could email me as much information as possible about anything and eveything, however minor might it sound to you. And also some of you might think that I'll be getting a response from somebody else, please send it yourself.
Thanks a lot,
Cheers,
- Raman

My advice would be, buy a copy of _The American Express Pocket Guide
to Amsterdam_ . They are cheap, and very up to date, and quite
complete. I used a Dutch translation when I went to Amsterdam last
year, and I found it very helpfull.

Thanks a lot for all you guys for responding to my queries.
About this article, what Van Thienen Erik says is correct but I don't want to look at Netherlands thru' the eyes of a writer but thru the eyes of people living there to get the proper perspective.
Thanks a lot again,

I prefer to call my country The Netherlands, although that's difficult
sometimes as it's such a mouthful. When I say Holland I always feel as if I
exclude two-thirds of the country.

July or August should be alright, but you'd better be prepared for
everything but frost.

yes, you should be fine. if you happen to meet someone who doesn't speak
some English, then the next person will.
