Here's one I've been trying to solve for a long time. My father is a US
citizen, and my mother is Dutch. I was born in 1969, in the US, and I hold a
US passport. I am hoping to get dual nationality with the Netherlands. I
have asked at various embassies and consulates and always get different
answers. The most authoritative answer I've received, at the Netherlands
embassy in Washington, was that if it was my father rather than my mother
who was Dutch, I could get it easily, but it's quite difficult in my case.
How difficult, they couldn't say. What the procedure actually was, they
couldn't say. The people at the consulate in San Francisco seem to have no
idea. The guy at the consulate in Bondi Junction, Sydney said that the Dutch
were so grateful to the US for rescuing them at the end of WWII that all
Americans could have residency just for asking. Every time I'm in Holland I
ask at the Vreemdelingepolitie kantoor in Bijlmermeer but they always say
the person who knows isn't there just now.

Has anyone else done this? Rumors, tales, anything. Who should I write to?
Where should I go?

Miguel- Wow!

I live in San Francisco too, so I certainly hope that you will give me
your telephone number so that we can become "partners in crime." What we
share in commmon is this- I wish more than anything to move to the
Netherlands. So PLEASE PLEASE tell me- how has your research progressed?
What's the outlook?

Sadly for me, my ancestors on both sides have been in North America for
400 years or more: there's no "technical" way out for me. But I really
would love to live in Amsterdam or nearby (Haarlem, perhaps). Well, it
really doesn't matter where. I like all the country and Amsterdam is not
that far from anywhere in Holland by train.

How long have you been trying to move to Holland? Have you tried getting
a job over there first? Do you have any relatives living in Holland? (If
so, you should try to get them to let you live with them while you search
for work over there IN the country itself....)

What was your experience with the Dutch consulate in S.F.? Should I go there?

Feel free to send e-mail to me directly at fe...@emf.net so that if you
want to tell me your number you can do so without posting it TOO publicly.

Thanks in advance for being out there and wanting to hook up......

Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa........
