Q:Pronunciation: van Hoogteijligen?

Hey soc.culture.netherlands!!!

Could someone please phonetically pronounce my families
original name for me. (We came to the states in 1644, some
silly Brit probably made us change it.)

van Hoogteijlingen...from Utrecht.

I hope somebody else can be of more assistance, but I'll try to help.
The emphasis probably lies on the second syllable.
The 'j' is part of the 'eij' which is pronounced in the same way as
'ei' or 'ij'.
The Dutch 'teij' resembles the English 'tie', but not exactly.
The difficulty lies with the first 'g' which, in Dutch, has a and raspy
sound (like clearing your throat).
'Ling' is pronounced the same as in English, the 'g' is part of the 'ng'
where the 'g' is very soft just like in 'wrong'.
en is pronounced as the English name 'Ann', but here it is a plural
ending and thus its more like 'un'.

Hoog, like 'hoax' with this raspy 'g' in stead of the 'x'
teij, almost like 'tie'
ling
en, pronounced like 'un'
