Dear Mr. Suk Gurung,

Would you please tell me What is meaning of Tamu and Lohsar?
In Tamang Language Loh mean year Sar mean New, most of people think
it has vast differences between Tamang Language and Gurung Language but
I found very similar with each other. I will appreciate you kind
reply.

Dear Tamang jee,

We Gurungs call ourselves as "Tamu" in our language. I am not sure if "Tamu"
has any other meanings in Gurung language besides a translation for saying
"OK" or "All right".

There is a belief that Tamu and Tamang were brothers long time ago....from
the fact that they have similar names, language, and culture. Also, both
groups have concentration in mid-western Nepal.

Lhosar also means change of a year or "Barga" in Gurung language.

Happy Lhosar & best regards /

Japanese (and chinese?) call this year as Rabbit year.
This is one symbol that differs with our Nepalis Lohsar
and Japanese year symbol marks, and I guess there is one
more that differs in these 12revolving years (with 12 different
symbols). I guess it is dragon year, which is probably
Nag (Snake year) in Nepali Lohsar symbols. Am I right?
