I have heard a rumour that the airstrip at Lukla will be closed off and
on for the next 6-8 months. I will be wanting to fly from Lukla to
Kathmandu in the third week of February of 2001. Does anyone have any
info on the rumoured closure of the airstrip. I have heard that the
reason for closure is some 'construction'.

I flew out of Lukla to Kathmandu on 31st December and the rumour was that
the airstrip was closing on about the 7th Jan. for several months for
repairs. I also heard that as a result, helicopter flights were being made
available to passengers at an additional cost of $41 ( on top of the $83
single fare ) . I would try and contact one of the flight companies such as
Royal Nepal Airlines or Yeti Airways to see if this is the case,
